At first we thought we were about to see another slow, tearful In Memoriam. The 2017 BET Awards had something else in store…

First, Tyrese Gibson gave a short introduction, honoring some of the fallen stars important to the BET community.

Then, rather than a moment of silence, we had rousing performances of Chuck Berry's Johnny B. Goode and George Michael's I'm Never Gonna Dance Again that got the whole crowd moving.

So celebratory! We really love this approach!

Geri Horner Releases Heartbreaking George Michael Tribute Song Angels In Chains — Listen!

Geri Horner may not be recording songs with GEM anytime soon, but she'll step in the recording booth for another old friend: George Michael.

The former Spice Girl has released a brand new song Angels in Chains in memory of her late friend.

The heartbreaking ballad is produced by Chris Porter, who worked with the music icon for over 30 years, as well as featuring musicians Michael regularly recorded with.

The songstress said she was nine-months pregnant and "full of emotions" when hearing of George's passing, and could only put her feelings into song. After working with Michael's longtime collaborators, that song became Angels in Chains.

George Michael Finally Laid To Rest Three Months After Death

George Michael finally laid to rest.

This took so long, but we're glad George Michael has finally been laid to rest.

His funeral took place Wednesday, three months after the singer passed away from a heart failure on December 25, 2016 at the age of 53.

A rep for the international superstar told People:

"We can confirm that the funeral of the singer George Michael took place today. Family and close friends gathered for the small, private ceremony to say goodbye to their beloved son, brother and friend.

George Michael's Boyfriend Fadi Fawaz Breaks Silence After The Singer's Cause Of Death Is Revealed

As we reported, on Tuesday, medical examiner Darren Salter confirmed the news that George Michael died from natural causes, specifically by a combination of heart disease and a fatty liver.

Prior to this reveal, there were rumors circulating that the singer died from drugs, with many pointing the finger at his boyfriend.

Now that the truth is out, Fawaz feels "vindicated" from these "very cruel" allegations.

Recently, the photographer did an interview with the Daily Mirror where he breaks his silence regarding the official news. He said:

Mariah Carey is on fire!!!!!

The diva paid tribute to George Michael at the Dubai Jazz Festival by performing her cover of the late music icon's ballad One More Try!

Mimi's vocals were put to work during the Thursday concert, which featured her first live performance of Michael's iconic tune since covering it on her 2013 album Me. I am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse.

Before she belted out the song, the singer was feeling some emotions explaining she originally remade the track "in honor of someone I really admire."
