UPDATE 6:00 P.M. EST: The actor has taken to Instagram to clarify his comments, writing:
"I am a proud black man. I want my son to grow up to be a proud black man if he so chooses. He has a mother who is white. He has every right to be just as proud of his mother's "blood" as well. Please wake up, people. It's not that deep."
Taye Diggs is going to catch a lot of flack for this one.
In a recent interview, Taye admitted that he doesn't want people to call his six-year-old son Walker "black". Considering the actor is a proud and self-identifying black man, this comment may be perplexing to some.
According to Diggs, he prefers the term mixed or biracial to describe Walker because the boy's mother, Idina Menzel, is white. While the two are now divorced, they remain committed co-parents and have a lot of respect for one another.
