Mad Max: Fury Road heated up the box office, making over $45 million its opening weekend!
So it's no surprise that the critically acclaimed film has already ignited another installment for the hit franchise!
Series director George Miller revealed that upcoming sequel will be titled Mad Max: The Wasteland. The story will follow the events of the latest film starring Tom Hardy in the titular role!
The Wasteland is referred to as the world the Mad Max movies take place in, dating way back to the original 1979 film with Mel Gibson!
Miller admitted that it was thanks to Fury Road's long delay that he now has a trilogy of films planned out. The director explained:
Avengers: Age of Ultron may have dominated the box office for the past two weekends, but that's all over.
That's because both Pitch Perfect 2 and Mad Max: Fury Road bested the Marvel movie in theaters this weekend!
But which sequel performed better??
Macho men boycotting a Mad Max movie for being too feminist??
It really MAY be the end of the world of the world! And we feel fine!
"Male rights activist" (seriously, someone thinks that's a thing!) blog Return Of Kings called on men to ban Mad Max: Fury Road as Charlize Theron's badass turn as Furiosa would lead to more women in lead roles in action movies.
Um, that's an even better reason to see it!
The post reads:
Can you believe Mel Gibson did something shocking that wasn't scandalous?!
Last night at the premiere of Mad Max: Fury Road, Mel surprised everyone when he popped by the TLC Chinese Theatre for the red carpet for the event.
He appeared to be all smiles as he posed for pics with the new Mad Max and star of the film, Tom Hardy, as well as director and creator George Miller. Tom spoke about the surprise appearance and stated:
This will sure to get the superhero rumor mill going!
Marvel seems to be on top of the world right now, especially with the recent success of Avengers: Age of Ultron. So it comes as no surprise that everyone wants to jump on board and be part of their Marvel-ous universe!
Tom Hardy recently sat down with Collider and had a quick chat about which Marvel character he'd really like to play! In response to a statement regarding Warner Brothers plethora of superhero movies coming out and Hardy's chances of landing in another superhero flick, the Englishman had this to say:
Oh, what could have been!
Back in January, Tom Hardy officially dropped out of the DC superhero flick, Suicide Squad where he was set to play the leader of the squad, Rick Flagg, and was replaced with Joel Kinnaman. Hardy reportedly had to finish filming a prior commitment, The Revenant, also starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
The hunky Englishman recently spoke with Collider during press for Mad Max: Fury Road, and confirmed he had to leave due to scheduling changes with The Revenant, but also shared his opinionated thoughts on Suicide Squad and the overall script by saying:
Hot damn, just when we thought we'd gotten our fill of Tom Hardy with his upcoming flick Mad Max: Fury Road, he LITERALLY goes off and gives us twice as much Hardy in his newest movie Legend!
Based on a true story, Hardy is playing the roles of both Ronald and Reginald Kray, twin brothers who were gangsters and ruled the streets of London in the '60s. Sounds juicy enough…
Tom Hardy, tough guys, slick suits, gangsters, sexy cars and oh, did we mention Tom Hardy? We can't wait to check this out, but until then, we'll just have to watch the trailer (above) to get us by until the release on September 18th.
