The illegal wildlife trade is literally a multibillion-dollar industry!

The same type of trafficking that's almost made tigers extinct is now threatening great apes!

Chimps, orangoutangs, gorillas and bonobos are all being plucked from their natural habitats and bought by private collectors or disreputable zoos.

The numbers are cray cray!

Retired Lab Chimps See Sunlight For The First Time!!

We absolutely hate that any animal is tested on.

Living their lives stuck in cages, being poked and prodded for years and years is the cruelest torture.

That's why it's so so so amazing when those animals get freed!

It's even more ahmayzing when 111 chimps are freed at the same time!

Over the next 12 to 15 months, lab chimps are going to be set free and live out the rest of their lives at Chimp Haven, a gorgeous sanctuary in Keithville, Louisiana.

These chimps get to see the sky and feel grass for the first time!

They can socialize and groom one another with no bars between them too.

It's really beautiful!

Check out the video (above) to see the chimps staring at the sky in absolute awe!

Chimps Know How To Play Fair!

Great!!! Now we have even MAWR hide n seek partners!!!

Researchers at Emory and Georgia State Universities have found that chimpanzees can play nice with each other, much like humans.

They studied a group by playing the ultimatum game, a test given to humans as well.

Peas and carrots, folks! That's the bond between alpha male Tumbill and baby Shangwe!

Tumbill, or Billy, is the top chimp at the Artis Royal Zoo but he's loving the newest addition to the fam.

Alpha males are important to chimpanzee society. They are not always the biggest but they are the best at forging relationships.

Chimps for President! LOLz!

So CUTEz! We ADORE Billy and Shangwe!

Michael Jackson's Chimp Retired And Alone In Florida

michael-jackson-chimp-abandoned-web.jpg

While we'll never understand the urge to own a chimp, we always hate it when they are abandoned.

Michael Jackson's pet chimp, Bubbles, has been left high and dry by the Jackson family. The primate was left out of MJ's will and Bubbles is currently "in retirement" in Florida.

Prince, Paris and Blanket used to play with Bubbles all the time, but they have visited nor contributed any cash to Bubbles' $20,000 keep.

Sad…stuck in retirement with no one to talk to…

Nim Chimpsky Dies Of Heart Attack Broken Heart!

Nim Chimpsky is widely known for being raised by humans after he was taken from his mommy in 1973 at the Institute for Primate Studies in Oklahoma.

But now, to illustrate the chimpanzee's life of science experiments and learning sign language in order to communicate with others, his story is set to be told in an HBO documentary, which is based on the book, Nim Chimpsky: The Chimp Who Would Be Human by Elizabeth Hess.

Nim unfortunately passed in 2000 from a heart attack, but according to his fav caretaker, Bob Ingersoll, he said "It might actually be fair to say he died of a broken heart."

Awww!

The film won't debut until December 20, but you can the 4-1-1 on Project Nim (above)!
