Conan O'Brien Is Losing The Ratings Game!

Conan O'Brien is in trouble!

In last week's ratings, The Late Show drew more viewers than The Tonight Show. This is the first time since 2005 that The Late Show has outperformed The Tonight Show with an average of 3.5 million viewers and a 0.8 rating to 3.3 million and a 1.3 rating.

When it comes to splitting up the demographics (and their purchasing potential to advertisers), Conan pulled in more viewers at a 1.3 rating with a 6 share, beating out Late Show with a 0.8/3.

So maybe Conan is all right for now. After all, money talks!

Letterman On Top! The Late Night Battle Begins

con-lett-wenn-getty.jpg

When news came in about Jay Leno's departure from the Tonight Show, the biggest worry to face NBC was if replacement Conan O'Brien could keep Leno's numbers.

Well, he can't.

Tough luck, O'Brien!

For the first time in 8 months, David Letterman's Late Show beat Tonight in the overnight ratings this week.

What was once a huge gap between the programs is now beginning to narrow.

But is NBC worried? Nah!

They are placing the blame on the youngster viewers who haven't been included in the ratings. NBC co-chair Marc Graboff conceded that when the 18-49 figures become available this week, it will prove Conan is holding his own against veteran Letterman.

Only time will tell if Conan can't keep the Tonight Show alive. Of course, if Jay Leno's gig falls through, he can always come back!

Conan Says No

wenn1958187_con__opt4.jpg

As we mentioned earlier, James Franco left UCLA graduates scrambling for a last minute replacement for a commencement speaker after her suddenly pulled out of addressing his alma matter.

Franco was supposed to be the university's speaker this year, but he ended up canceling on them with just two weeks to go and a lame excuse. He claimed he had to be on location for "pre-production" on an upcoming film.

They couldn't give him ONE day off?????

So students took to their Facebook accounts and started a petition to have funnyman Conan O'Brien be their speaker instead.

But really, we think Conan's got enough to worry about with being Jay Leno's new replacement, especially with the ratings he got this week.

So, in a short yet polite statement, O'Brien has just declined the offer to address the graduation UCLA class, saying:

"I am honored to be asked but I am so busy launching "The Tonight Show" there just is not enough time to give this speech the preparation it deserves. I wish everyone in the class of 2009 the best and I am honored that they thought of me."

Maybe Jimmy Kimmel is available?

UCLA Trying To Get Conan

conan__opt1.jpg

So after James Franco dropped out at the last minute, the kids at UCLA are now pulling for Conan O'Brien to come speak at their commencement. They've even set up a Facebook group. Isn't that cute?

One of their five reasons for inviting Conan to speak is, as they put it, "What better way to welcome the latest host of The Tonight Show than to have him speak for the greatest school in Los Angeles."

Go Bruins!

So if you "Need a good way to procrastinate studying for your final," join the group and write some letters, because we're sure a Facebook message is all Conan needs. That and us just posting about it now!

Conan O'Brien's Ratings Drop - Considerably!

conan__opt.jpg

After Monday night's triumphant debut, people may have taken the criticism to heart, because ratings for Conan O'Brien fell 30% with "a 5.0 household rating and 12 share."

It's still better than Jay Leno was doing on The Tonight Show towards the end of his run.

Maybe people were just tired from staying up the night before?

Conan Rates Well Despite Reviews

wenn1958187_con__opt.jpg

Despite the lukewarm reviews, Conanon O'Brien debuted to the highest ratings on The Tonight Show since 2005.

Conan was greeted with a 7.1 rating/17 share and was Monday's top-rated telecast.

What do critics know anyway?

Conan Debuts To Mostly Negative Reviews

So maybe Conan O'Brien just needs some time to warm up to the West Coast or the West Coast needs some time to warm up to Conan because the reviews of his debut show are lukewarm.

Despite being "a large-scale, impressive debut," another reviewer called the show "a work in progress," with some of the lingering sketches "at times, painfully unfunny."

A reviewer, however, pointed out "that success in late-night depends on the long haul," and while we think that Conan has got what it takes, he might have called it when he joked that "I think I've timed this move perfectly. I'm on a last-place network, I moved to a state that's bankrupt and The Tonight Show is sponsored by General Motors."
