The good news is we're FINALLY going to get a sequel to 2011's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo!
Sony announced on Monday they are rebooting the literary franchise with an adaptation of The Girl In The Spider's Web, the novel written by David Lagercrantz after Millennium trilogy author Stieg Larsson passed away in 2004.
Fede Alvarez, who has already shown he can bring the tension in under budget in horror hit Don't Breathe, will direct with a release date planned for October 5, 2018 (opposite Aquaman, assuming Warner Bros can hold it together).
Now for the bad news. The film's stars are NOT reprising their roles.
Daniel Craig reportedly wanted a pay raise to return as Mikael Blomkvist, but Sony is looking to spend a LOT less on the R-rated sequel. We still aren't sure why they aren't bringing back the Oscar-nominated Rooney Mara.
So who should play the titular hacker, one of the most badass female characters ever on the big screen? Alvarez has big plans. He said:
And even though Bond 25 won't be hitting theaters for another two years, big names are already being thrown to play a role that's almost as iconic as the British super spy himself — the next Bond girl!
Online polls have revealed Margot Robbie is the favorite to land the iconic role in the next 007 film!
According to betting site Paddy Power, the Suicide Squad star has the strongest odds to play the next Bond girl, sitting at 12/1!
Other actresses with favorable odds are
Everyone wants to know who will replace Daniel Craig as the next James Bond — and it looks like we have a NEW frontrunner!
Last we heard, Tom Hiddleston was still the favorite, but while he's been off gallivanting with Taylor Swift, it seems that James Norton, from Rush and the TV mini-series War and Peace, has become the new frontrunner to be the next 007!
In the wake of Hiddleswift, UK bookmaker William Hill has updated their odds for the actors most likely to land the role of Bond and it seems that Norton is sitting at
Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, Mother of Dragons, and possible 007?!
There has been all sorts of news recently surrounding which actor or actress might take over for Daniel Craig if he does indeed step away from the cinematic role of James Bond.
Reports Craig walked away from a MASSIVE contract as well as news that he was cast in both a film and a TV show seem to prove he's done — which means loads of actors and actresses are lining up for the part.
Emilia Clarke has decided she's not going to let Anderson be the only lady Bond in the running as she's ALSO thrown her hat in the ring to play the first female 007!
The 29-year-old actress revealed to The Sun:
But it looks like fan favorite contender Tom Hiddleston is still the frontrunner to to suit up as the next 007!
According to Birth.Movies.Death, the star of spy miniseries The Night Manager is in "advanced talks" to take over the role — but Loki fans shouldn't get too excited just yet!
While the actor has made no secret of his desires to play Bond, no official offer has been made as of now.
Though the Billy Elliot star's involvement could just be the studio's attempt to drive Hiddleston's price down, we wouldn't mind seeing either hunky Brit take over the franchise!
But let's be honest, can literally ANYONE look better in a tux than Tom? (See the above photo for answer.)

Not only did Craig's acting buddy Mark Strong reveal he thinks the blue eyed star has "come to an end" with his time as 007, but most recently, it was rumored the 48-year-old turned down nearly $100 million to return for two more movies!
Well now we have some new info that seems to confirm Daniel leaving — because he'll be WAY too busy to take on the role!
There has been a ton of talk in the last few months about who the next actor to play James Bond will be and now we have a new name to add to the list — Jamie Bell!
After Daniel Craig reportedly turned down nearly $100 to play 007 in two more films, names like Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston, Tom Hardy, and even Gillian Anderson have had a lot of fan support to be Craig's replacement.
Though most of the actors rumored to be up for the part are A-listers, Bell — most known for playing the titular character in Billy Elliot – has joined the list of candidates thanks to Bond producer Barbara Broccoli's fondness of the actor!
Barbara is currently working on Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool with the 30-year-old and has been quite impressed with his talent over the years as a source revealed to The Sun, saying:
