New Health-Themed TV Show Coming From Lisa Cortes, Producer Of Precious

Lisa Cortes was the executive producer on Precious, and she has a new project for us!

She's turning the NYT Bestseller called 21 Pounds In 21 Days: The Martha's Vineyard Diet Detox into a TV show!

Interestingly enough, if that takes off she could have more than enough material to keep it going as well — the authors of the book, James Hester and Dr. Roni De Luz, are going to auction next week with their follow-up book!

Fab!

We're usually weary of fad diets and detoxes like this, so we'll have to check it out before we can make any concrete judgements.

Detox Guide

If you’ve been stuffing yourself with winter-time goodies and hot chocolate for the last few months, you may benefit from some sort of detox diet. But before you start one, it’s good to have some basic knowledge about them.

What is a detox?
On a very basic level, a detox is a diet that removes harmful substances from your body. The harmful substances could include pesticides, preservatives, excessive saturated fats, and MSG, among many other things.

How do I know if it’s time for a detox?
Your body will tell start giving you signs when you need a detox, such as fatigue, skin ailments (acne, eczema, and psoriasis), bad breath, indigestion, and muscle pain.

Typical detox diet
A typical detox diet last for a week to 10 days and consists of eating the following foods:
– Whole foods that are high in fiber (grains, nuts, seeds, etc.)
– Organic food and drink because they contain no pesticides
– Fruits and Vegetables in high quantities
– Lots of water
– Certain herbal supplements such as Licorice, Milk Thistle, and Psyllium seed

Contrastingly, it will tell you to avoid:
– Alcohol, caffeine, tobacco, drugs
– Processed foods and refined flours/sugars
– Certain supplements due to additives
– Meat and Dairy

What are the benefits and side effects?
Important benefits of detoxifying include clearer skin, improved digestion, greater ability to focus and concentrate, as well as boosted energy and metabolism.

Is a detox right for me?
The following types of people should not not detox: Women who are pregnant or nursing are advised to abstain along with those with anemia, eating disorders, diabetes, kidney disease, thyroid disease, autoimmune disease, cancer, terminal illness, certain genetic diseases, and other chronic conditions.
