Famed addiction specialist Dr. Drew Pinksy believes that the pain medication given to DJ AM for injuries in the plane crash he survived last year, may have contributed to his untimely demise.
"It very slowly and subtly reawakens addiction," said Drew of prescribed meds igniting a possible relapse. "I'm not saying it was inappropriately prescribed, I'm saying he didn't know the risks."
DJ AM was said to be taking anxiety and pain medication for two skin graft surgeries undergone due to injuries sustained in a 2008 plane crash.
As the New York City Medical Examiners office struggles to find the cause of DJ AM's tragic passing, authorities have discovered the inner workings of his last day.
At 1 a.m. on the day he was discovered in his NYC apartment, Adam Goldstein (AKA DJ AM) sent a text message to two friends about his Las Vegas gig that day at Rain Nightclub at the Palms.
Sixteen hours later, his friends called 911 because the deejay could not be reached before his scheduled flight as he was not answering his cell phone.
According to a police source, the NYPD broke down the door to his SoHo apartment to find him lifeless.
The initial autopsy report was proved "inconclusive," so a toxicology report will be expected in the following weeks, despite drugs found on the scene.
DJ AM's former girlfriend and close friend Mandy Moore has released a statement about AM's untimely passing.
Says Mandy:
I am absolutely heartbroken. For those of us lucky enough to have known him, Adam radiated a contagious exuberance for life and also personified the very definition of a true friend. To say that he will be missed beyond words is an understatement. My heart goes out to his loved ones
Sources believe DJ AM's recent breakup with his girlfriend, Hayley Wood, coupled with the post-traumatic stress from his September '08 plane crash may have triggered the former addict to use.
AM was said to be "completely devastated" when Wood ended the relationship last week.
The DJ was sober for nine years before being found in his NY apartment from an alleged overdose on Friday afternoon, which goes to show how incredibly harrowing a disease addiction is.
Our thoughts continue to go out to AM's family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

Part of Madge's setlist is her iconic homage to self-love, Express Yourself, but in her 2012 version, she is spicing it up by mashing it with Lady GaGa's similar anthem, Born This Way.
Yeah, you're not going to want to miss this!
Ch-ch-check out the video (above) to hear Madonna sing BOTH Express Yourself and Born This Way!
