There’s no denying that Steel Magnolias is a film classic. But who knew there’d been so much drama behind-the-scenes?!

Apparently, the film’s director Herbert Ross had a HUGE problem with 80’s ingenue Julia Roberts! Sally Field and Shirley MacLaine had a few things to say during the Target Presents AFI Night at the Movies event on Wednesday.

Shirley revealed:

Tony nominee Kenny Leon's remake of the 1989 emotional drama Steel Magnolias starring Queen Latifah, Condola Rashad, Alfre Woodard, Jill Scott, Adepero Oduye, and Phylicia Rashad, will air on Lifetime this October 7th!

This cult film — originally starring Julia Roberts, Sally Fields, Dolly Parton, Shirly MacLaine, Daryl Hannah and Olympia Dukakis — centers around a group of Louisiana women who habitually come together at a local salon. The story explores the importance of friendship in the face of life's great tragedies.

We're VERY excited to see this modern take on such a beloved classic… and we instantly adore any film featuring The Queen!

Although we're not sure if Q. Latifah can deliver Sally Field's "Whyyyyyy" cry in quite the same fashion…
