Another Grey's Anatomy Musical On The Way?

Filed under: TV News > Ellen Pompeo

Maybe we should all see how tonight's episode goes before we give Shonda Rhimes the go-ahead for a round two, huh?

Tonight, Grey's Anatomy will venture into territory very few TV shows have before and even fewer have succeeded with - a musical episode. Sources caught up with the creator of the acclaimed drama to ask what to expect from the episode and if there was any hope for a second musical episode. Here's what we learned.

The episode has actually been in production "since September" between rehearsals, recording, and actually shooting the episode. Shonda reveals she was very surprised at the amount of musical talent she had on the show and if she had to go back and do it again, she would have put more pressure on those "claimed they couldn’t sing." On such person was Ellen Pomepo, who Shonda says has a real "pure and true" voice and whose character is going to go through a lot tonight. She explains:

"She’s been really tough this entire time about her own fertility issues. She’s been really stoic and strong and fairly positive about it. This is her weakest moment when she feels the randomness of the world."

No doubt her scenes will be powerful. Ellen always brings it.

So what about the future? Will there be another musical episode in season eight? Perhaps, since Shonda is already thinking about other musical numbers she would like to hear the cast perform. She added:

"I really want to see Ellen sing ["Portions For Foxes"] by Rilo Kiley, which was the very first song we ever had in the pilot. I’ve already been saying I want to do it again. It was really tough on everybody though. We’ve been working on the episode since September. Everything from rehearsals to recording, it was a really difficult episode. I don’t know if we’ll ever do it again, but I already want to."

Never say never, that's what we've and Justin Bieber have always said.

Are U all looking forward to tonight's episode of Grey's?

Time For Grey's To Get Real

Just when you think they've got nothing left up their sleeves, Shonda Rhimes does it again.

A new twist is coming to Seattle Grace in Feburary. For the first time, Grey's Anatomy will be taking a 24 approach and present an episode in real-time.

The episode's titled Golden Hour and will follow Ellen Pompeo's character Meredith Grey as she runs the E.R. during the first hour after a trauma. It's gonna be bloody. It's gonna be sad. It's gonna be great TV drama.

Ok, maybe not as great as watching Jack Bauer save the entire world in one hour, but it'll still be worth tuning in on Feb. 10th, we think.

Nicole Richie Throws Star-Studded Bash To Celebrate Harlow's Third Birthday!

They grow up so fast!

Tomorrow, Harlow Madden will be three years old, but her mommy, Nicole Richie, got the party started early by throwing a big bash over the weekend.

Sources confirm that the Richie/Madden's celebrated the big day at the Treehouse Social Club in Beverly Hills, a full-time play center, café and spa for moms and their kids. The guest list included A-list rents and kiddies like Ellen Pompeo with her daughter Stella, Jessica Alba with her baby girl Honor, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale with sons Kingston and Zuma, Kourtney Kardashian and her son Mason, and Sara Gilbert with daughter Sawyer. As source who was at the bash revealed:

"It was a fun, casual party. Besides the celebrity kids, Harlow had a few friends from school at the party and she was very excited. The kids played outside in the Treehouse and enjoyed art and crafts projects inside. All the moms chatted while the dads bonded and it was a perfect party for both the adults and the kids."

How sweet! Makes us want to run out right now and adopt a little one to throw such a bash for!

Such a good mommy you are, Nicole!

P.S. - Where was Christina and Max we wonder?!

Oh man! Those are some full hands, Meredith Grey! Don't drop your baby!

The actress, otherwise known as Ellen Pompeo, was spotted leaving yoga class carrying a shit ton of mats along with her baby Stella Luna, which is also the name of a really cool children's book about a bat raised by birds!

Kudos to you, gurl - you certainly know how to multi-task!

We are impressed!

The Most Terrifying Grey's Anatomy Ever!

11grey-s-anatomy-cast-grey.jpg

We have one word to sum up last night's season finale of Grey's Anatomy: Emmys.

Emmys all around. One for Ellen Pompeo. One for Sandra Oh. One For Chandra Wilson. One for Mandy Moore . The list goes on and on and on.

The episode was surreal, validating a series we kind of thought was on its way out. If they had writing like this every week, they'd be on forever!

WARNING: DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER UNLESS YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED ON LAST NIGHT'S FINALE!!!

A lot of Grey's Anatomy fans had trouble sleeping last night after what will probably go down in history as the most heartbreaking and terrifying two hours of the show in its history.

Seattle Grace finds itself under attack by a crazed, grieving gunman, who fans will recognize from an earlier episode where his wife was taken off life support. This man has one goal - kill Dr. McDreamy, but ends up leaving a wave of destruction at the hospital that no one could have seen coming. If you watched the first seven minutes of the episode, you know that Alex Karev is shot right from the start. Things don't go too well for him from there, but luckily, his GF little Grey and McSteamy find him and save his life. (Now if he could only get over effing Katherine Heigl…)

Mandy Moore guest starred this week as a patient. We have no idea what her condition was, but it wasn't life threatening enough to stop her from assisting Dr. Bailey from trying to save the life of another surgeon that was gunned down. In one of the most shocking scenes of the show, the gunman pulls Dr. Bailey from her place of hiding, points a gun to her head and asks if she is a surgeon. She lies and tells him she is nurse, which results in him sparing her. That scene, that one scene - 10 Emmys! 20! Do they have something like a lifetime one where you just keep getting one over and over again?

But the pinnacle of the evening involved the show's remaining core three characters. By the end of the first hour, we watch Dr. Derek Shepard get shot and lie dying in the hospital. It is up to Christina, who is the only heart surgeon still in the hospital, to save his life. Things become that much more complicated when the gunman finds Christina operating on Derek, puts the gun to her head and insists that she stop or he will kill her. She doesn't, but instead helps trick the gunman into thinking she let Derek die on the table once Meredith arrives and begs for him to shoot her instead. Emmy for Ellen. Emmy for Sandra.

In the end, Derek lives, the gunman shots himself, and the McBaby that Meredith had just learned she was carrying is miscarried. A pretty sad note to end on.

The night was a whirlwind of drama, suspense and tears. Just how television should be.

We're still not really over it all!
