Former Best Actor Nominee Joaquin Phoenix Thinks The Oscars Are 'Bullsh*t'

| Filed under: Film FlickersJoaquin Phoenix

Andddddddd his chances for taking home an Academy Award for his critically acclaimed performance in The Master just plummeted! LOLz!

Joaquin Phoenix doesn't care though, which is kind of admirable. The actor — who made his glorious return to the screen in September after a failed rapping career mockumentary –believes Hollywood's highest honor is "total, utter bullsh*t."

He made his opinion known during a recent interview with highly respected film critic Elvis Mitchell for Interview magazine and explained his position by saying:

"I think it's bulls–t. I think it's total, utter bulls–t, and I don't want to be a part of it. I don't believe in it. It's a carrot, but it's the worst-tasting carrot I've ever tasted in my whole life. I don't want this carrot. It's totally subjective. Pitting people against each other … It's the stupidest thing in the whole world."

Is it really? Or is he just bitter because he was nominated for Walk the Line and lost?

If we take him at his word, then yes, the award really is stupid and he thought so long before he had his chance to take one home. Phoenix revealed he felt "uncomfortable" when he was nominated while continuing:

"It was one of the most uncomfortable periods of my life when Walk the Line was going through all the awards stuff and all that. I never want to have that experience again. I don't know how to explain it — and it's not like I'm in this place where I think I'm just above it — but I just don't ever want to get comfortable with that part of things."

After every Academy voter finds out just how much he despises the Oscars, then maybe he won't. Still, we kinda hope he does because in our minds, talent deserves to be rewarded!

Watch The Final Trailer For The Master

| Filed under: Film FlickersJoaquin PhoenixAmy Adams

Paul Thomas Anderson has wowed the film community again and again and it looks like The Master will not break that trend when it hits theaters on September 21.

The final trailer for the flick (above) that could give both Joaquin Phoenix and Philip Seymour Hoffman Oscar #2 has been released and we think it's the best one yet.

In just over a minute, we can clearly see the tension rising between the master and his pupil and we can't wait to see their relationship explode on the big screen before those credits roll!

The Master Talks About Love In Newest Trailer

| Filed under: Film FlickersJoaquin PhoenixAmy Adams

The trailers for P.T. Anderson's The Master are almost like short films themselves. Rather than just showing a bunch of quick clips from the entire thing, each seems to give us a preview of a specific moment or theme that the narrative explores.

The newest trailer (above), which was tailor-made for last night's advanced screening at the Music Box Theatre in Chicago, is all about love and how Phillip Seymour Hoffman's character believes it affects his pupils.

It's both mysterious and intriguing, but mainly makes us a little jealous we missed that surprise screening in Santa Monica last week.

People were speculating whether

The Master Mysteriously Disappears From The Venice Film Festival Line-Up

| Filed under: Film FlickersJoaquin Phoenix

Film enthusiasts hoping to get a glimpse (or at least a review) of Paul Thomas Anderson's newest drama, The Master, at this summer's Venice Film Festival are majorly disappointed.

While sources reported that the next film from the director of There Will Be Blood will be debuting at the festival, it mysteriously disappeared from the schedule.

There are still plenty of high-profile films for festival attendees to look forward to, but still, pretty much everyone was

Scientologists Beware! PTA Reveals First Official Trailer For The Master!

| Filed under: Film FlickersJoaquin PhoenixOscars

We can't friggin' wait to see this!

Technically, there's currently no official link between Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master and The Church of Scientology.

PTA has been asked repeatedly and has declined comment.

Off the record, most everyone recognizes his new film is a not-so-subtely disguised L. Ron Hubbard biopic.

Ch-Ch-Check out Phillip Seymour Hoffman's portrayal of a cult leader/philosopher in the trailer (above), and we think you'll see what we mean.

Regardless, we are PUMPED for more PTA!!

It seems like six decades have passed since There Will Be Blood!

And from the trailer alone we definitely wouldn't be surprised if Joaquin Phoenix was nominated for an Oscar.

We're totes enthused for The Master to visit theaters in late 2012.
