Sarah Jessica Parker Defends The End Of Sex And The City — And Explains Why She'll Never Take A Selfie!
The Sex And The City star recently opened up to Yahoo Beauty about the way the iconic series ended, which is obviously a subject of some controversy.
The interviewer mentioned that series creator Darren Star was NOT a fan of the way the franchise finished. He had previously said:
"I think the show ultimately betrayed what it was about, which was that women don't ultimately find happiness from marriage. Not that they can't. But the show initially was going off script from the romantic comedies that had come before it. That's what had made women so attached."
But the blonde beauty disagrees, saying:
This apparently bears repeating.
But, really, Sarah Jessica Parker is NOT Carrie Bradshaw. Never was, never will be.
In a new, short interview with the Wall Street Journal, the actress once again reiterates this fact while talking about how much she enjoys the challenge of taking on new roles:
"I love the process of becoming somebody else, but the work to become so, and to be convincing, is still very challenging. Every project is brand new and scary. People probably don't realize that Carrie Bradshaw was radically different from who I was, who I continue to be. I think that sometimes because we look alike and live in the same city and haunt the same neighborhoods, that it was sort of like I was playing in the sandbox, when in truth it took real work every day to be her, to understand her, to not judge her. I'm working on a new series for HBO now. The character I'm playing is incredibly different from me in many ways—she handles complexity differently than I do, her marriage is different from my own, and she's struggling financially in a way that I don't at this point in my life. But that's what I love. I still love the idea of being somebody else."
"Look alike"??? You played her on TV, Sarah!
Whatever, never mind, obviously no actor is the character they play in film, no matter how iconic that character eventually becomes.
We're just perplexed that people still annoy SJP with Carrie comparisons. Move on, guys!
And there probably won't be a third SATC movie, bye.
So someone on the Sex and the City writing staff was actually dumped via Post-It note?
And someone else dated a politician who secretly wanted to be peed on?
And yet another dated a comic book artist with awesome weed who still lived with his parents?!
According to Cynthia Nixon, AKA Miranda Hobbes on the show, all of the "crazy" and "outlandish" plot lines for the HBO show were inspired by actual events that happened to the show's writers or people they were close with.
During a recent IMDb Asks interview (skip to 16:10 if you're lazy), the actress came clean:
"Even though crazy and outlandish things happen in Sex and the City, fantastical things seemingly, they had a rule in the writer's room that nothing — they couldn't put anything in an episode that hadn't literally happened to someone in the writer's room or someone that they knew firsthand…The outlandish, physical, sexual things that happened, they really happened. They weren't just tall tales."
We'd personally love to meet the person responsible for most of Samantha's insane sexual escapades.
Remember that time she just randomly gave the UPS guy a blow job? All hail Samantha!!!
Can Sarah Jessica Parker Tell The Difference Between Santa's Reindeer And Sex Apps? Find Out In This Funny Billy On The Street Clip!
But the Sex And The City star was surprisingly well informed on the latest match-making technology when she appeared on Billy on the Street!
In the clip, SJP played a round of Reindeer or Sex App, in which Billy Eichner asked her to guess if the words he's rattling off are dating apps or the names of Santa's reindeer!
The quick-fire game was surprisingly difficult (is Cupid a reindeer or an app?) but the actress had a TON of fun playing — and even won a super adorable prize!
Before the game, the host had a much needed discussion with his guest about — what else? Sex & The City 2!
Ch-ch-check out the clip (below) to find out what happened!
Happy thoughts and best wishes to Kim Cattrall!
The ever-raunchy Sex And The City star was all set to perform in the titular role of Linda, a new play debuting in London next week, until health issues sidelined her from the production!
Cattrall made the announcement in a public statement, saying of her decision to leave the production:
Sarah Jessica Parker Finally Returns To HBO For A Divorce (Please Say From Mr. Big)! Get Your First Look At The Breakup Comedy HERE!
Finally, Sarah Jessica Parker is going through with her Divorce!
The Sex & The City star is exec producing and starring in the half-hour comedy as Frances, a woman who reassesses her life and marriage, and we're assuming at some point, files for divorce!
We'll have to wait to find out how different Frances will be from Carrie Bradshaw, as we only have one promotional still to go off of.
Hmmm… it doesn't seem like Frances is as big of a fashion risk taker… But maybe that will happen after she's liberated from the divorce?
It looks like we'll have enough time to speculate — HBO president Michael Lombardo said at the Television Critics Association press day that he hoped the series would premiere in spring or summer of 2016!
Will YOU be watching Divorce?
