Even Worse News For Kelly!

mx0046613.jpg

This must sting!

The official numbers are in from Billboard and Kelly Clarkson's career crippling new CD, My December, has done even worse than projected.

As we reported yesterday, Hits Daily Double had projected that Kelly's CD sold 300,089 copies. That number is actually lower.

My December, which came in at #2, ended up selling 291,000 copies - far below the #1 album in the U.S. this weeks, Miley Cirus's Hanna Montana 2: Meet Miley, which sold 326,000 copies.

Clarkson's debut barely improved upon the opening week sales of her last album, Breakaway, which started at #3 with 250,000.

That album went on to move more than 6 million units in the U.S. alone and was filled with hits.

That's not gonna happen with My December!

Kelly Defeated! Miley Victorious!

kellyvsmiley.jpg

As we had predicted, Kelly Clarkson's much-maligned new album, My December, lost the #1 slot on the U.S. album charts to Disney channel star Miley Cirus.

Clarkson's last album, Breakaway, sold over 6 million copies in America. Huge hit!

She will be lucky if the new record sells a quarter of that.

According to Hits Daily Double, My December moved 300,089 copies its debut week.

That number was not good enough to beat Disney's Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley, who sold 322,924 units.

Congrats Miley!

Kelly should just scrap this album as a loss and already start working on her next "comeback" album, hopefully out early next year so she can tour next summer.

Kelly Hires A New Manager! In Bed With Reba!

keeeellyyyclarksson.jpg

Kelly Clarkson made headlines when - following the cancellation of her summer tour and after a highly publicized feud with her record label - she fired her powerful manager, Jeff Kwatinetz of the Firm in Los Angeles.

Now, the former Idol winner, whose new album (My December) has been met with awful reviews, has signed on to be managed by Nashville-based Starstruck Entertainment.

Reba McEntire's husband, Narvel Blackstock, is the CEO of Starstruck Entertainment and will serve as Clarkson's personal manager.

Clarkson has been a lifelong fan of McEntire's. Hopefully her husband will be able to guide Kelly in the right direction going forward.

Quote of the Day

74711384.jpg

"Most of the songs, co-written by Clarkson, rely on wide-screen, processed production gimmicks, rather than genuine hooks. And as any pop Svengali knows, making a pop record is as much a matter of craft and precision as it is eccentricities. It's about the thin line between hackwork and magic. As much as one can applaud Clarkson for wanting to be taken seriously, neither pop nor rock should sound as labored as most of My December. A Svengali might have also talked her out of releasing a summertime album with that title, but that's another story."

Poor Kelly Clarkson!

kellyvsmiley.jpg

Things are not looking good for the first American Idol winner - who has been mired in controversy, from her feud with Clive Davis to recently firing her manager, cancelling her tour and not having the financial backing of her label to make her new album a huge hit.

PerezHilton.com has learned that the industry buzz is that Miley Cirus's new Hannah Montana CD is expected to debut ahead of Kelly's My December this week, when both albums are released head to head.

That Disney sure is a powerful marketing beast!

As for Kelly, start working on your next album now, girlfriend.

Drowning Her Sorrows Away

070620zm_kellyclarkson_12-c.jpg070620zm_kellyclarkson_20-c.jpg070620zm_kellyclarkson_16-c.jpg

Is that her brother? Her beared?

Kelly Clarkson - with a male companion - was spotted wobbling out of posh eatery Koi in West Hollywood on Wednesday night.

We hear that the former Idol winner's relationship with her record label is still strained, which may explain why Kelly's drowning the pain away.

Following the bad word of mouth on her new album and her cancelled summer tour, sources tell us that Clarkson's label is not pouring as much money into advertising and marketing as they had planned or as Kelly would like.

Oh well. This one's a scrap. Start thinking about the next album already!
