Netflix To Feature Their Own Original Series!

netflix to feature original series

Uh oh, Amazon Prime & Redbox and maybe even cable networks! Looks like Netflix means business.

Netflix has just outbid HBO and AMC for House of Cards, an original series directed by The Social Network's David Fincher, which will star Kevin Spacey, and is being executive produced by the duo.

Negotiations are still underway, but it appears that Netflix will be the exclusive home for the 26-episode season, which will cost the company over $100 million.

The show was written by former Conservative Party chief of staff Michael Dobbs, and it's a political thriller which is "set at the end of Margaret Thatcher's tenure as prime minister and follows a British politician with his eye on the top job."

This is quite a move for Netflix! And given the fact that The Social Network's David Fincher is attached to the project, we could see where A LOT of people will want to check out the show.

Should be inneresting to see how this affects their business.

Would you be more inclined to sign up for Netflix with the addition of original series'?

Kevin Spacey Bringing Peace Theatre To The Middle East

kevin-spacey-middle-east-theater-project.jpg

Solid! What a really great project to put together!

Kevin Spacey has signed off on a project for his foundation called Dubai: the Middle East Theater Academy. The group will attempt to bring culture and the arts to the region and "provide instruction in all aspects of theater and offer a path for Middle Eastern works to travel to Broadway and other international sites."

Considering what is going on in Egypt right now, we don't know if this is the best time for this.

Then again, who knows? Maybe it could be a real force for good! We certainly hope so! Nothing like the arts to bring people together!

Kevin Spacey Talks About His Sexuality…Sort Of

Filed under: Gay Gay Gay > Kevin Spacey

kevin spacey talks about his sexuality sort of

Innerested in hearing about Kevin Spacey's sexuality?

During an interview with Kevin Sessums for the Daily Beast, Spacey SORT OF opens up about his sexuality.

Here are some highlights of the conversation from Kevin…

Spacey on why he hasn't publicly claimed himself as a gay man:

Look, I might have lived in England for the last several years but I'm still an American citizen and I have not given up my right to privacy.

More on why his sexuality is a private matter for him:

…People have different reasons for the way they live their lives. You cannot put everyone's reasons in the same box. It's just a line I've never crossed and never will.

Spacey on why he doesn't feel he's living a lie by not announcing his sexuality publicly:

I don't live a lie. You have to understand that people who choose not to discuss their personal lives are not living a lie. That is a presumption that people jump to.

And here's Kevin on why he feels that sexuality IS an important issue and should be discussed:

Look, I think finally this is a very important issue to be discussed. I do. Mainly because of how sad it is that young people in this country—and even around the world where they don't have the freedoms and rights we do—are being subjected to the kinds of abuse they are being subjected to. That's what is shameful.

We certainly agree that it's an important issue that needs to be discussed. Other than that, we agree that it's Kevin's decision as to whether or not he wants to publicly announce his sexuality.

Admittedly, we think it'd be wonderful if he embraced his sexuality publicly, so that we'd have another open, celebrity icon for gay youth to look up to, but let's be honest…he's made it pretty clear what his sexuality is.

Thoughts???

New Details On Sam Mendes And Kevin Spacey's Richard III!

kevin-spacey-and-sam-mendes-collaborate-on-stage-production-of-richard-iii

This is going to be absolutely epic!

As we first reported back in August, Kevin Spacey is officially re-teaming with his American Beauty director, Sam Mendes, for the title role in a stage production of Richard III at The Old Vic theatre in London in June, and then at the Brooklyn Academy of Music the following January!

Here are all the details according to the official press release:

The final season of The Bridge Project starring Kevin Spacey, Artistic Director of The Old Vic, in the title role of Richard III, will open at The Old Vic in London on June 29, 2011. The Bridge Project will then embark on an international tour, arriving at BAM’s Harvey Theater in New York in January 2012. The Bridge Project will again be directed by Academy Award-winner Sam Mendes with whom Spacey worked on the film American Beauty, for which they both won BAFTA and Academy Awards.

The Bridge Project is a unique three-year series of co-productions by The Old Vic, BAM and Neal Street, devoted to producing large-scale, classical theatre for international audiences.

The full company will again be drawn from leading American and British actors, with complete casting and international dates to be announced. Tickets will go on sale at The Old Vic from January 31, 2011 and at BAM in Fall 2011.

Commenting on the final season, Sam Mendes says:

“I am absolutely delighted to be working with Kevin again for the first time since American Beauty, and I am doubly thrilled that he will be leading year three of The Bridge Project. Richard III is a play I love, and a role I think Kevin is born to play. I’m also thrilled that the partnership between our three entities has strengthened and blossomed over the course of this venture, along with a host of invaluable international partnerships that have enabled us to extend the reach of global touring year after year.”

The Old Vic Artistic Director Kevin Spacey, who plays Richard III, says:

“Sam, [BAM Executive Producer] Joe [Melillo], and I are so excited to announce this production. Sam is one of the finest directors I have had the pleasure to work with and to gain this opportunity is beyond my wildest hopes. I love Sam’s perspective on a role, carving and shaping the actor. With such a remarkable character before me I have a feeling this one is going to be a memorable experience. It is also my hope to bring a comprehensive educational programme and opportunities for emerging artists along with our travels, making an argument for the living theatre in all the major cities we will visit throughout 2011. We're delighted that Bank of America Merrill Lynch has come on board for another season as our sponsor and I applaud their continued support for our work.”

We don't even know where to begin, we're so excited!

This show is going to be RIDICULOUSLY good! Seeing that press release has got us totally pumped!

What do U think?? Are U ready for Kevin and Sam's Richard III??

Kevin Spacey Is An Honorary Commander Of The Order Of The British Empire!

Filed under: Anglophilia > Kevin Spacey

kevin-spacey-awarded-cbe.jpg

Wowsa!

Kevin Spacey was privileged to be made honorary Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II on Wednesday.

He was honored for his continued work to revive London's iconic theatre, the Old Vic.

Spacey said:

"I was hugely, hugely delighted that Prince Charles has awarded me the CBE, which the Queen has so generously given to me for my services to theatre. (The Prince) was just extraordinarily generous about the work we've done at the Old Vic over these past seven seasons, that I've dedicated myself to the revival of this brilliant, wonderful theatre, and for all the belief that I have that arts and culture are a hugely important part of our lives.

Frankly for me to be standing here today in front of Clarence House having a rather British scene happen directly behind me makes me feel very happy and proud to call London my home."

Congrats!

kevinsame.jpg

Last time they collaborated, they made American Beauty. We’re going into this one very optimistically!

Kevin Spacey and Sam Mendes are joining forces once again, this time in the theatre for a production of William Shakespeare’s Richard III.

The play will open at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York, and will then make its way to London’s Old Vic theatre, where Kevin Spacey serves as artistic director.

Spacey will play the lead character, Richard III. Here’s what Kevin had to say about the opportunity:

"With such a remarkable character before me, I have a feeling this one is going to be a memorable experience."

More from Spacey on Mendes’ directing skills:

"Sam is one of the finest directors I have had the pleasure to work with and to gain this opportunity is beyond my wildest hopes.”

Mendes has been quoted as saying that Richard III is “a role I think Kevin is born to play.”

Looks like a wonderful collaboration in the works! We’re sure this will be fantastic!

Are U excited to see this American Beauty duo teaming up again?
