We're glad that Matt Damon was able to write and submit an essay based on his fond memories of the Boston Marathon before the events on Monday occurred. We'd rather have the pureness of them shine through, rather than through the filter of such an awful attack!

The piece was published for a local paper on March 31, and it sounds like the Boston Marathon will always be a big part of his past. Here's some of what he had to say about such an amazing event:

Four hours a day?? He could've spent that in front of a computer or a tv or something! You know, like eating snacks and stuff!

Good for Matt Damon! His focus on his craft is amazeballs, and we're super interested in how someone can workout four hours a day for an upcoming movie and not get totally bored with it! Working out is amazing, but let's be honest: it gets boring when you're just doing your usual hour!

So it's no surprise that so many A-list celebs are joining the Stand Up To Cancer telethon to raise money and awareness in the fight against cancer.

Gwyneth Paltrow, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, Samuel L. Jackson, Emma Stone, Jessica Biel, Katie Couric, Jeremy Renner, Seth Rogen, Rashida Jones and more will all be participating!

The fundraiser will be commercial-free from 8pm to 9pm EDT on September 7th. It will air on CBS, ABC, Fox, NBC and several other cable channels.

Aside from celebrities answering the phones, there will also be musical performances from Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Alicia Keys and Tim McGraw.

It's amazing that so many celebs are all freeing up the same night to help battle cancer.

The organization hosting the telethon said it has given around $120 million in grant commitments to research "dream teams" of all different scientific disciplines and to scientists looking for new and innovative ways to strike a serious blow to cancer.

Way to go celebs!
