What a good morning, indeed!
Gloria Estefan is one of the most iconic latina musicians of all time, so it's no surprise that her Broadway musical is a hit as well.
On Your Feet! stars Ana Villafañe and Josh Segarra as Gloria and her man Emilio Estefan and tells the story of the pair's rise to fame set to music from throughout their careers with some new pieces written just for the production!
The cast stopped by Good Morning America on Wednesday to show off why you need to see the musical RIGHT NOW with a medley of songs ranging from the titular Get on Your Feet to classics like Conga and Rhythm is Gonna Get You.
It's just pure energy and joy onstage, and we cannot wait to see it again!
Ch-ch-check out all of Gloria and Emilio's life's work condensed to a 3:40 segment (above)!!!
Perez is a diehard and lifelong Gloria Estefan fan! So the bar was set high for the new Broadway musical, On Your Feet, based on her life and that of her husband, Emilio.
This show not only met our expectations - it exceeded them!
On Your Feet will please the casual Gloria fan and also satisfy her most ardent admirers.
The show was masterfully crafted by Oscar-winning stage and screenwriter Alexander Dinelaris. His script weaves us between Miami and Cuba from the 70s, 60s, 80s and early 90s.
And the story that is told on the stage of the Marquis Theater could not be any more timely!
Yes, of course, the show touches on Gloria's nearly fatal bus accident. But that doesn't even happen until Act 2!
Instead, On Your Feet is a love story and an immigrant tale. It is inspiring and revealing!
There was a lot we did not know before, which shocked us! Notably: it was a surprise to learn that Gloria become estranged from her mother for two years at the height of her success, and that her sister "got in with the wrong crowd" around the same time too.
For a Cuban family to reveal those two things to the public - that's major!
And that's the kind of investment Gloria and Emilio made in this show! They are telling their story and telling its as authentically as possible!
Jerry Mitchell does a great job of adding great production value and making this show fit on Broadway.
And Ana Villafane was destined to play the role of Gloria! She is channeling her fellow Cubana up on that stage!!!
Gloria and Emilio did the orchestrations for Get On Your Feet and the music really shines in this show! It may surprise you how many ballads and midtempo songs are featured - we cried our eyes out - but the show ends with a bang, concert-style. Literally! There's a nearly 6 minute encore medley of uptempo hits to send you off on your way and raving to all your friends about how good On Your Feet is!
This is absolutely AH-Mazing!
Hispanic Heritage Month started last Tuesday, so it couldn't be a better time to release a wonderfully catchy and upbeat song that also promotes awareness about unity.
And that's exactly what Emilio Estefan and his wife Gloria Estefan did when creating the song and video We're All Mexican!
The music power-couple tapped several of their friends to participate — including Carlos Santana, Pitbull, Thalia, Wyclef Jean, Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas, Banda El Recodo, Carlos Vives, Angelica Maria, and of course Gloria as well, among others.
The video also features celebrities such as Kathy Griffin, Whoopi Goldberg, Amaury Nolasco, Eva Longoria, Carlos Ponce, Gabriel "Fluffy" Iglesias, and Kate Del Castillo. Oh yeah, and if you peek around 2:08, you'll see a friendly, familiar face too!
Emilio said of creating the song:
"As immigrants, we have a love and appreciation for this country and for the freedom that it represents. We need to lift up our pride and show the world all the great things we're doing. I wrote and produced this song to communicate a message of uniting all immigrants, not dividing them."
We're All Mexican serves as a metaphor to show that no matter who you are, anyone can be a victim of racism and bigotry much like the Mexicans who've been recently targeted by some media outlets as well as political leaders.
Ch-ch-check out the video (below) and let us know what you think of the new song and share your pride!
This is fantastic!
Grammy-winning producer Emilio Estefan has recruiting quite a few of his famous friends to help record a song called We're All Mexican that hopes to fight all the anti-Mexican statements thrown their way
by Trump recently.
Emilio talked a bit about what caused him to take on a project like this by saying he was sick and tired of hearing people make ridiculous and hateful statements towards the Latin community, and he wanted to create a song that was a "celebration of Hispanics and our accomplishments."
Estefan continued by saying:
