If it's not one thing it's another. Prince is being sued by perfume company Revelations to the tune of $100,000 for providing no assistance in promoting a "3121" fragrance which utilized his likeness and the title of his 2006 album. According to a licensing contract entered into by Revelations, Prince, and Universal Music Publishing Group, Prince would be involved with 2 different fragrances, one that was released last year and another one slated for 2009. In exchange for 50% of the net profits Universal would help secure Prince's cooperation. And then the phone went silent. Revelations claims they've been trying to get in touch with someone at Universal since July 2007, to no avail. Universal Music Publishing Group issued the following statement: "Although we have not seen the complaint, we are familiar with the claims being asserted by Revelations, and they are completely without merit." So there you have it! Let the best bitch win! [Image via WENN.] Permalink / 42 comments (RSS) / Forward this post » Prince Was Misquoted, The Singer's Camp Claims
Contrary to what a recent interview with the New Yorker is reporting, a source close to the rocker tells us that Prince was grossly misquoted and misinterpreted as not down with gay rights. Apparently, the interviewer did not even use a recorder when she spoke with His Holy Purpleness, and that when she called his people to fact check, it turned out she had several factual inaccuracies, including a little bit about Prince recovering from hip surgery, which he never even had. Like Prince is really made of bones or something and not nebulous gold glitter - come on! What His Purpleness actually did was gesture to the Bible and said he follows what it teaches, referring mainly to the parts about loving everyone and refraining from judgment. That sounds better, considering he's a man who caused his own Controversy! "We're very angry he was misquoted," says our Prince insider. No tape recorder? How unprofessional! The new issue of the New Yorker features a short, but very revealing interview with pop star Prince. His Jehovah’s Witness beliefs appear to be the thing that guides his life these days. The Purple One also talks politics. He thinks the people on the Right use the Bible in the wrong way to advance their agenda at times and that the Left is way too 'anything goes'. No surprise, he ISN'T a supporter of gay marriage.
Prince also told the interviewer that like other Jehovah's Witnesses, he knocks on doors to spread their word. We hope he knocks on our door one day. We'd love to have a nice long chat with him about his beliefs! [Image via Getty Images.] Permalink / 155 comments (RSS) / Forward this post » Prince Has To Pay Up
Last year, video editor Ian C. Lewis sued Prince and his company, Paisley Park Enterprises. The amount? A total of $1,000,000 in exemplary damages. Apparently, Lewis says Prince never paid him for editing work and never returned some of his equipment. Just last month a trial was held that included testimony from Lewis saying he deserved to be paid. But on Wednesday, a Los Angeles Superior Court Judge issued an order that said Prince would only have to pay about $58,000 to Lewis. At least that's nowhere close to the original $1 million he was asking for. Lewis had also claimed that Prince and his company broke at $25,000 computer, but the judge denied that claim since no receipts were provided. And in a weird turn, Prince's attorneys withdrew from the case! He wasn't represented during the trial!!! Taking that craziness into account, Prince must be quite thankful for the outcome! "Being a Jehovah's Witness, I don't celebrate birthdays or holidays. I don't vote." - Prince tells USA Today [Image via WENN.] Permalink / 185 comments (RSS) / Forward this post » Don't Mess With His Purple One
The diva is fighting back! Fifty artists recently recorded Prince covers in honor of his 50th Birthday this past June 7th. Unfortunately for them, everyone's getting sued! But the funny part is, they're being sued by Prince himself. Yup! Prince's attorneys are demanding that all copies of the tribute album be destroyed immediately. In Norway, Shockadelica has reached No. 8 on the album charts. It's also received several popular reviews by the Norwegian Press. So, what's the problem? By law, it's legal to sell cover songs of someone else's material. You're just required to pay about a 10 cent licensing fee per song. Norway's C+C Records has distributed 5,000 of the box sets since the beginning of the month. They've also given digital versions. However, they say no one has made any money from the project. So they claim they didn't think they owed Prince any money. Just maybe a free copy? Christer Falck, owner of C+C Records, said he contacted Prince's people to try and send a set to Prince and that's where the legal issues began. Though luckily for them, with all the attention the lawsuit will bring, we bet they'll be selling a lot more than 5,000 albums. Now you'll be able to pay Prince….AND your lawyer! Prince is a legend and a consummate performer. He also don't come cheap! Yesterday, we told you the exciting news that his Purple Highness will be performing at the Coachella Music Festival near Palm Springs later this month, and now we're told how and why his appearance came into fruition. "Prince was a late late addition to the line-up," a source tells us. "The promoters added him to try and sell more tickets and make up for a less than stellar - in comparison to years past - roster of performers." And, it cost them mucho dinero to get the tiny dynamo to perform at Coachella. How much??? "He was paid close to $4 million," our source reveals exclusively to PerezHilton.com. Dayum! That is MAYJAH money. He'll be worth every penny, though! Update: A source close to Prince has corrected us. He got paid MORE than $4 million! "The exact amount Prince is getting paid for his Coachella performance is $4.8 million," says our well-connected insider. Coño!!!!!! Permalink / 138 comments (RSS) / Forward this post » |
