Vogue Faces Backlash For Suggesting Cara Delevingne's Relationships With Women Are Just A 'Phase'

| Filed under: Gay Gay GayVogueCara DelevingneLGBT

Vogue's Cara Delevingne profile angers readers.

People are unhappy with Vogue again, which does not surprise us at all.

The issue this time concerns how the magazine handled Cara Delevingne's relationships with women in its July cover story.

The writer, Rob Haskell, basically suggests that Cara's interest in women is just a "phase," as can be seen in this passage:

"Cara says she felt confused by her sexuality as a child, and the possibility of being gay frightened her. 'It took me a long time to accept the idea, until I first fell in love with a girl at 20 and recognized that I had to accept it,' she explains. 'But I have erotic dreams only about men. I had one two nights ago where I went up to a guy in the back of a VW minivan, with a bunch of his friends around him, and pretty much jumped him.' Her parents seem to think girls are just a phase for Cara, and they may be correct. 'Women are what completely inspire me, and they have also been my downfall. I have only been hurt by women, my mother first of all.' 'The thing is,' she continues, 'if I ever found a guy I could fall in love with, I'd want to marry him and have his children. And that scares me to death because I think I'm a whole bunch of crazy, and I always worry that a guy will walk away once he really, truly knows me.' When I suggest to Cara that to trust a man, she might have to revise an old and stubborn idea of hers—that women are perennially troubled and therefore only women will accept her—her smile says she concedes the point.

People have taken umbrage at this flippant dismissal of bisexuality, and a woman named Julie Rodriguez created a Care2 petition asking for an apology from the magazine and editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour.

Julie wrote:

"The idea that queer women only form relationships with other women as a result of childhood trauma is a harmful (and false) stereotype that lesbian and bisexual women have been combating for decades.
As a bisexual woman myself, I've experienced hurtful comments like this many times. People are quick to assume queer women's identities are a "phase" and to refuse to recognize the important relationships in their lives — an attitude which can cause depression, result in families rejecting their daughters (or forcing them into abusive conversion "therapy"), and even put young women at risk of suicide."

We agree that it is harmful to suggest that being gay or bisexual is a phase, and many people also seem to agree with Julie — at the time of this writing 12,812 people had signed the petition!

Michelle Rodriguez is happy for Cara Delevingne!

Awww! No Bad Blood between Mother Chucker and Michelle Rodriguez!

The 36-year-old has nothing but nice things to say about her rumored ex Cara Delevingne opening up to Vogue about her sexuality and current girlfriend, musician St. Vincent. The Fast and Furious actress remarked:

"Oh that's so sexy, you go girl! Work it out, I think that's hot!"

People were speculating last year whether or not Michelle and the model were in a relationship. The two were spotted hanging out — and MAKING out — quite a bit, and even got wet and wild in Mexico!

But alas, whatever they were just wasn't meant to be, and they went their separate ways, but everyone's TOTALLY happy!

Michelle is real proud of her reported former fling for being honest about who she really is, saying:

Kanye West, Kendall Jenner, & Jessica Chastain Score Vogue Japan's Cover With The Givenchy 'Fashion Gang'

Kendall, Kanye and more join Riccardo Tisci on Vogue Japan.

What is going on here, guys? Help us understand!

Riccardo Tisci wrangled up members of his "fashion family," including Kanye West, Jessica Chastain, and Kendall Jenner, for the cover of Vogue Japan's August issue.

But while Riccardo, Kanye, and Jessica look basically like themselves, Kendall and the other models — Jamie Bochert, Joan Smalls, Mica Arganaraz, and Akimoto Kozue — sport a ton of facial jewelry (piercings?) — and honestly Kendall looks like she has a mustache!

Why?!?!

We guess it's just some really cool fashion thing that us plebes will never understand.

We're also quite surprised Kim Kardashian West didn't manage to squeeze into this group somehow.

Thoughts???

Did You Think The Tony Awards Red Carpet Was A Little More Glam Than In Past Years?? You Can Thank Anna Wintour For That!!

The Queen of Fashion just expanded her empire!

The Tony Awards may be the most prestigious award show for musical theater, but the red carpet hasn't always reflected the elegance of the night… Until 2015, that is!

If the gowns worn by the nominees and Broadway A-Listers on Sunday seemed more extravagant to you than in past years, that was totally intentional.

In fact, Anna Wintour herself single-handedly transformed the Tonys red carpet after being asked to help by head of the American Theater Wing William Ivey Long and New York City celeb Jordan Roth.

In an interview before the Kristin Chenoweth and Alan Cumming-hosted ceremony, Anna talked about bringing her Vogue style to the event, saying:
