Are you a cranky carbo-holic? Does a sweet-tooth soothe your stress?
When it comes to emotions, many people look to the kitchen for foods to help ease their moods. The average person will snack on foods that they know aren’t good for them which leads to feelings of guilt and remorse, making their emotional situation worse!
If you are looking to kick your emotional eating to the curb, try my four simple steps:
Step 1: Remove - Identify what foods you always eat when you feel bored, tired, stressed, or depressed. I call these “trigger foods” and for some people they can be cookies, crackers, ice cream, or chips. It’s important that you remove these foods from your kitchen completely. Don’t just hide them behind the canned goods in the back of your cupboard! We are going to replace them with some delicious and healthy alternatives.
Step 2: Replace – Now that you’ve identified your trigger foods, it’s time to replace them with healthy alternatives. If you crave crunchy, salty foods, try making this recipe for Baked Garbanzo beans, packed with protein! You can also purchase flax chips or organic popcorn sprinkled with a bit of sea salt. Are you an ice cream fanatic? Get some Greek yogurt and top it with honey and cold fresh berries. Love candy and sweets? Munch on some dark chocolate, full of antioxidants and vital minerals.
Step 3: Rehydrate – Whenever you get the urge to splurge on some junk food, reach for a tall glass of water. Sometimes we can get the feeling of hunger confused with the feeling of thirst. After you drink the water, wait 15 minutes to see if the cravings subside. More often than not, the cravings will completely disappear! Be sure to stay hydrated during the day by drinking plenty of water. To figure out exactly how much to drink, take your body weight and divide it by two. That’s the minimum amount of ounces to drink every day!
Step 4: Rejuvenate – If you are feeling stressed, bored, or anxious, rejuvenate your body with healthy stress-management techniques. Soak in a warm salt bath and light lavender candles. Bust your booty at the gym doing your favorite exercise routine. Play some soothing music and read a book. The goal is to take your mind off of your negative feelings and the thought of food.

Nail Nutrition –Naturally strong and beautiful nails start with eating calcium-rich foods such as spinach, yogurt, kale, and cottage cheese. If your nails are brittle, eat cauliflower, peanuts, and lentils as these are all good sources of the nail-strengthening nutrition biotin.
