It's nice to see fashion insiders trying to make a positive difference. And in April's Issue of Indian Vogue, the editors aimed to show that darker skin is sexy.
Apparently there's a prejudice in India with many believing lighter skin equals beauty.
So the magazine decided to place five gorgeous and tanned models on their cover, titling it The Dawn Of Dusk, Vogue India celebrates the skin tone the world covets.
According to the editorial:
"Every generation has its share of beauty myths. Perhaps it is time to bust this one. Time to say that as a magazine we love, and always have loved, the gorgeous colour of Indian skin…dark, dusky, bronze, golden - whatever you call it, we love it."
One expert adds that "Skin colour matters a lot for women in India. Fairness is a very valuable thing here, looked on as desirable. The fashion world can be a big agent for change in this area."
And it turns out that the sale of skin-whitening creams have gone up 18% in the last year alone with insider predicting it'll increase to 25% this year.
Let's hope it helps to make a difference.
Tan is beautiful too! But natural tans of course. Don't go orange like Lindsanity!
