Marc Jacobs partner Lorenzo Martone will launch his own rival fashion line. The label Nycked, which is a play on the initials N.Y.C., will begin with women's swimsuits.
"Relationships are hard enough without mixing business into them. I don't advise mixing the personal and professional," said Martone, suggesting the Marc has nothing to do with this business venture.
But it will be a collaboration with jewelry designer Jules Kim! The two were inspired by the "gritty aesthetic" of NYC and wanted to move away from typical poolside collections.
"We saw an opportunity in the marketplace for something cooler and more downtown. Swim seems to be dominated by a Los Angeles aesthetic and our collection brings a New York attitude to it.
Swim in part of my Brazilian heritage. Swimwear is considered real fashion there. When Brazilians go on vacation for four days, they bring at least four different swimsuits."
The suits will be covered in sequins, along with bows and corset lacing in black, white and red. The collection will be launched in July and be in stores by November. Each piece will cost between $120 to $130.
Now all New Yorkers will have to do is find a pool!
