Emerging fashion designer Sylvie Cachay was found dead in her room at NYC's SoHo House hotel on Thursday.
Police say the 33 year old's body was submerged in a bathtub with bruises around her neck and bite marks on her hand. The medical examiner is now trying to determine if she was strangled.
Cops have already interviewed Sylvie's boyfriend, 24 year old Nicholas Brooks, who checked in with her at around 12:20 am after a small fire broke out in the designer's apartment.
The couple had a history of arguing, but he's denied any involvement with her death.
According to a source Brooks showed up to the room at 3:30 am after going out to get something to eat.
The source adds: "He claims she was alive, he left her at the hotel to get something to eat, and when he came back, she was the way she was."
Investigators are reviewing the hotel's video surveillance to see if his alibi checks out.
