Out of all the people in the world, Turkish company Biomen decided to use Hitler to hawk their line of shampoo for men.
In the commercial (above) Hitler can be heard saying:
"If you’re not wearing women’s clothes, you shouldn’t be using women’s shampoo either. Here it is. A real man’s shampoo. Biomen. Real men use Biomen."
Not surprisingly, this isn't sitting well with a lot of people and has prompted a lot of responses condemning the commercial.
The Chief Rabbinate of Turkey issued statement on behalf of the Jewish community that said:
"We follow with sadness and regret the use of Hitler figure in the Biomen Men Shampoo advertisement, which was brought to the screen in recent days. Hitler, who massacred 6 Million Jews in gas chambers for the sole reason of being Jewish and also killed its mentally disabled citizens on the purpose of creating "a pure Arian race" , had created the darkest pages of the world history. Using him in an advertisement for whatever reason is an unacceptable situation and could not be accepted by us at all. This is beyond all ethics as well as a huge insult to human rights. We believe and expect that the necessary senstivity will be shown and the correction will be made soon."
Abraham H. Foxman, the Anti Defamation League's National Director and Holocaust survivor also released a statement on the terrible marketing ploy:
"It is an insult to the memory of those who perished in the Holocaust, those who survived, and those who fought to defeat the Nazis. This video is just the latest example of the use of Holocaust imagery in some countries to sell commercial products, which has contributed to the trivialization of and desensitization to the unparalleled horrors of the Holocaust. There can never be any justifiable purpose for using the images of Hitler, Nazis or any other depiction of the Nazi killing machine to sell products or services."
The ADL also fired off a letter to Turkey’s US ambassador, which read:
"That this advertisement was created in Turkey, for a Turkish audience, when Turkey is so justifiably proud of its history as a haven for Jews, and in light of its recent projects promoting education about and awareness of the Holocaust, is particularly troubling."
What do U think about Biomen's ad???
