We knew Jane Austen was a big deal, but this is just…wow!
A turquoise ring that belonged to the Pride and Prejudice author sold at auction on Tuesday, for a not so sensible price of $236,557.
Sotheby's said of the bauble purchased by an anonymous collector:
"Jane Austen's simple and modest ring is a wonderfully intimate and evocative possession. The price achieved today and the huge level of interest it has generated, is a remarkable testament to the author's enduring appeal and her place at the heart of our literary and cultural heritage.”
We understand that it’s a collectible, but if we’re going to spend that kind of money on a ring, it’s gotta have some bling!
