Anna Wintour’s First Vogue Cover Was The Result Of What?!?

Not only is the highly-anticipated September issue about to be released, but it’s also Vogue’s 120th Anniversary issue!

So, queen bee, Anna Wintour, has taken this time to reminisce about the cover on her very first issue with the mag. She writes:

“It was November 1988, and starred the gorgeous Israeli model Michaela Bercu, photographed by Peter Lindbergh and styled by Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele. Michaela was wearing an haute couture Christian Lacroix jacket with a beaded cross, all very Like a Prayer, and stonewashed Guess jeans. The jacket was actually part of a suit, but the skirt didn’t fit Michaela; she had been on vacation back home in Israel and had gained a little weight. Not that that mattered. In fact, it only served to reinforce the idea to take couture’s haughty grandeur and playfully throw it headlong into real life and see what happened.”

Miz Wintour goes on to describe how the printer thought there was a mistake since the photo wasn’t as pristine as the usual cover. The model wasn’t looking at the camera, her hair was a mess and it wasn’t a makeup-filled close-up.

She wraps up her trip down memory lane by writing:

"I had just looked at that picture and sensed the winds of change. And you can’t ask for more from a cover image than that."

Agreed!

Vogue has certainly changed since Wintour took the reigns, and we couldn't be happier!
