After hearing about former America’s Next Top Model contestant Jael Strauss’s battle with meth, CariDee English, winner of Cycle 7, decided to speak out.
The model posted a lengthy comment on an article about Jael, venting about how tough it was to actually model post-ANTM.
"Tyra won't do anything. She provided a wonderful platform for girls to have a chance at their dream, but, after there is no "Tyra Mail". I had to guide myself, and even though I won a model competition I still had no idea what the modeling BUSINESS was like. I had no idea what the industry was really like. I was famous, but no one wanted to take my picture. And critics and industry love to give us all shit for not being the next big supermodel."
CariDee went on to say it isn't Tyra's fault, but some kind of support after the show would have been nice. She made it clear that she wasn't complaining, but simply defending, and she’s worked really hard to make a name for herself in the industry, even though "mentally, it's horrific."
Since ANTM girls aren’t the standard models, CariDee also wrote about how hard it was to fit in, stating:
"The fashion industry had NO idea how to market us. Our agents, our managers….. because we become a instant celeb…. but had a protforlio of a rookie model. Even though we just were named ‘TOP’ our place in line at Fashion World was at the bottom. The industry many times didn't care about our name, but did turn a snobby cheek to the name ANTM."
Despite this, she still has nothing but love for what she does and the place she’s made for herself.
As for Jael, CariDee expressed sadness, saying, "Poor girl. Having problems and then getting a hint of fame only make an addiction rise."
It's always inneresting to get an inside view on what life is like after ANTM and how these girls cope with their hardships since they aren't the typical model.
