Coach Wins Huge $257 Million Lawsuit Against Counterfeiters

Boom! Another counterfeiter is ordered to pay up!

Coach has won a lawsuit against 573 websites that were selling counterfeit goods, and the sites were ordered to pay $257 million!

Since the websites are run illegally, Coach likely won’t see much of this money, but it’s the principles that made it a victory.

The judge ruled that the websites must be shut down, and any assets in their PayPal accounts can be seized in addition to damages.

Since these websites also resembled Coach's site and used their pictures, the court ruled that if any similar sites pop up, they will be taken to court and immediate action will be taken.

Coach's VP, Todd Kahn, explained why this is so major, saying:

"The magnitude of this judgment underscores the severity and illegality of counterfeiting, and sends a clear message that our courts will enforce the law."

Their attorney, Joseph Gioconda, added that, "Brand owners definitely need to act very aggressively in this area, as there is a plague of counterfeit Web sites."

There definitely are a ton of fakes out there, and we’re glad the courts are taking this seriously and laying down such harsh penalties.

Maybe one day soon they’ll be able to track down the bad guys!
