The truth is starting to come out! Or at least some very reasonable speculation.
Ghesquière became frustrated with PPR, Balenciaga's parent company, when they practically rolled out the red carpet for Slimane at Yves Saint Laurent.
Nicolas' wanted to take Balenciaga in a new direction for some time, but was repeatedly denied by PPR. Meanwhile over at YSL, Slimane had 100% creative freedom to do whatever he pleased.
Fashion critic and anti-Hedi fan, Cathy Horyn, explained why he’s disgruntled, saying:
"Mr. Slimane had been inactive in design for about five years and had not done a women’s collection. He was allowed to change the corporate logo and store designs and remain in Los Angeles, commuting as needed to Paris."
That is definitely enough to make anyone angry!
There are rumors that Ghesquière will find a place at LVMH, or he might take a break to figure things out.
It's also been confirmed by the CEO of Balenciaga, Isabelle Guichot, that there's already a shortlist of people who they'd like to take over.
Wherever Nicolas ends up, we're sure he'll be just fine.
