The theme of the night -- taking place on May 2 -- is Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology. It will focus on the juxtaposition between "handmade haute couture and machine-made fashion."
As described by Andrew Bolton, curator of the Met's Costume Institute:
"Traditionally, the distinction between the haute couture and prêt-à-porter was based on the handmade and the machine-made. But recently this distinction has become increasingly blurred as both disciplines have embraced the practices and techniques of the other."
Inneresting! We can't wait to see what outfits celebs *cough* Kanye West *cough* come up with!
The exhibit, which is sponsored by Apple, will display more than 100 ready-to-wear pieces of couture, as well as numerous "in process" workshops, one featuring a 3-D printer for attendees to take for a spin.
