Kanye West Compares Early Fashion Show Attendance To Civil Rights Movement Sit-Ins!

| Filed under: Fashion SmashionKanye West

Kanye West compares his early fashion world experience to the Civil Rights Movement!

It may be hard to believe, but Kanye West was not always the fashion world darling who hobnobbed with Anna Wintour and Riccardo Tisci that he is now.

There was a time when Yeezy was not even ALLOWED to go to a fashion show.

Can you believe the injustice???

During a surprise performance at the Design Miami event at Art Basel in Switzerland, the 35-year-old took a moment before playing his new music to recall a not so glamorous time in his life.

He said:

"So when I used to go to fashion shows with my boys and we’d be eight deep, it was almost like a civil rights, like a sit-in. They wouldn’t even let us in. They had no idea what rap would mean to this world, what rap would mean to the art world. Before the Kendrick Lamars and the A$AP Rockys, it was Kanye West in a hotel room at the Le Maurice getting a ‘No, no, no, no’ to every single fashion show."

Did he really just compare that experience to the non-violent sit-in protests staged during the Civil Rights Movement? That seems like kind of a stretch.

On the other hand, we already know that Kanye says some of the most CRAY things we've ever heard.

Life wouldn't be the same without his comical quips!

Haha he's becoming the black Amanda Bynes! I love it. some folk seriously need to zip it.

It is hard to believe he is so self-centered that he has no clue about real discrimination.

Entitled prick. "Slave names", "civil rights"… Sir, understand the meanings of these phrases before you so carelessly throw them around for your black, entitled agenda. Your ancestors were not raped, tortured and treated like non humans for you to be a prick. MLK did not die for you to act like an ass. These people had class, despite hardships. Not only do you not have any class, but not getting into a fashion show where you were not invited is not a "hardship". Grow up. Your ancestors deserve better than you.

he sounds so incredibly foolish, I wish he would just stop talking.

I don't suppose he realizes how many hundreds of other colors are told no, no, no, too.
Fashion shows were, are and probably always will be exclusive…but yah, it's all about him.

Re: @v@ – Too true, only fashion shows I ever saw or are likely to see were at tea room in Bullock's department store. Loved their Chinese chicken salad.
This was before Macy's bought what seems like 25% of the SoCal department stores.

No one in their right mind would let 8 thugs into their fashion shows. And why should they? What credentials did you have then? What credentials do you have now? You're still a thug and no one wants you at their shows now. Oh and Yeezy, you're not a designer. Never have been, never will be. You're delusional if you think you will ever be accepted like Jay-Z and Beyonce.

I want to know what the hell happened during his journey to stardom that molded him into thinking he is god!!! He is so obnoxious!

Why can't he be talented and humble at the same time??? You can rap, that's all. You're not significantly contributing to the current issues of the world today! i.e. cancer, unemployment, violence, poverty, poor education system. ect…

I feel for Kim. I dont think she has any idea the type of person she is stuck with. He is disgustingly self absorbed. It literally is sickening. I feel sorry for him too. He's no better than anyone else.

Kanye seems to have a very warped way of looking at the world. I get the impression that he feels, just cause he thinks it - it makes it so. That's a sign of immaturity. He's in for a RUDE awakening when the world doesn't embrace him and his ego. His & Kim's primetime days are numbered.
