Joan Jett is suing mad!
The iconic rocker is none too pleased that a lingerie line is plastering the name of her 70s band, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, all over their frilly panties and other assorted underthings, and she's demanding that they cease and desist immediately!
Okay, so Blackheart Lingerie, owned by Hot Topic, is only using "Blackheart" in its name, but Miz Jett thinks that's enough to count as trademark infringement.
Her record label also claims that the lingerie line has appropriated the rocker's persona with its slogan "Lingerie for chicks who rock and roll" because Joan was the only who popularized the whole rock chick style.
The record label is asking for unspecified damages and an injunction to halt further sales of the lacy knickers, but they might have a hard time getting that money from Hot Topic.
After learning about the lawsuit the retail released a statement saying they've had the Blackheart name trademarked for years! They maintain:
"Hot Topic, Inc. takes the rights of artists very seriously, and has in fact compensated Ms. Jett over the many years in keeping with mutually agreed-upon license agreements … this lawsuit is a surprise to us, and we are confident in our rights to use the Blackheart brand name."
Sounds like someone's not telling the truth…but who???
