The small aircraft carrying Vittorio Missoni, his wife Maurizia Castiglioni, two friends, and two crew members that went missing in January off the coast of Venezuela has finally been found.
The plane was discovered five days ago in the northern part of the Los Roques archipelago by an oceanographic ship called Sea Scout.
After the discovery, representatives for Missoni released a statement saying:
“The families thank the Venezuelan government and the Italian government for the effort in having made this search possible. They are confident that the investigation will follow through to the ascertainment of the causes and the responsibility for the accident.”
Rescuers are currently trying to determine the best course of action for recovering the wreckage and do not have any new information on the passengers' fates.
Last month, the family's founder and patriarch Ottavio Missoni passed away never learning his eldest son's fate, and we can only hope that this latest information gives at least some bit of respite to the Missonis.
