Sounds like Cannes needs to work on their security!
Less than three months after the Bling Ring-esque Chopard heist during the Cannes Film Festival, another jewelry thief has strick the French Rivera, this time IN BROAD DAYLIGHT!
WTF is going on there!?
The robbery occurred at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday at the Carlton Intercontinental Hotel, right before a bunch of brand new expensive jewelry was about to be displayed for a month-long Leviev diamond house exhibit.
Dressed in a scarf and hat, the armed robber pulled a semi-automatic gun on the manager, two employees, and two unarmed security guards before grabbing the bag full of jewels and walking right out a glass door.
Even though some of the bling fell out on to the street, the loot is valued at $136 MILLION!
With that much jewelery on hand, we can’t help but wonder why the security guards were unarmed? Especially since this is the THIRD heist of this kind within THREE months.
Deputy Prosecutor Philippe Vique thinks the jewelry thief is French since he spoke the language perfectly, and believes the unidentified sticky bandit will have a hard time selling the jewels because they’re "incredibly expensive".
Umm, we’re preeeetty sure he could sell the items for far less than they’re worth and still make plenty because he STOLE THEM.
Buckle up your security, Cannes!!
