He's an ass, I'll admit to that. But he's not totally wrong since he was right about Hugo Boss. If anything he was being offensive to the nazis.

talk about double standards… its funny to laugh at the chemical attacks in syria… but as soon as the fucking jews are brought up, its the end of the world

  3. 3

There is nothing more offensive than the truth.

Did he say something true? Oops…

I'm on Russell's side this time because he spoke the truth; Hugo Boss did design and manufacture the nazi uniforms and even advertised their proud relationship although slave labor is what actually pushed their profits. very enlightening is the fact the the Boss company paid to research this and refused to publish their findings. why?

In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act. Oh, that Russell, refusing to go along with the sliding status quo.

  8. 8

Good for you Russell. Anybody with half a brain that reads this will get it.

Are you kidding me? First of all, Russell Brand's comment was not offensive to Jews or to ANY group, other than Nazis and greedy companies who supported their efforts during WWII. Secondly, good for him for a. not being afraid to address what was a very offensive and insensitive comment on Boris Johnson's part, and b. generally speak the truth and draw attention to a whole bunch of ridiculousness and hypocrisy. I'm wondering if you even thought this post through in terms of the angle you took on it, or just wanted to skew it to make it seem negative or salacious.

  10. 10

Russell is an ass, but he is the kind of ass we desperately need. Someone has to point a finger a straight at the hypocrisy and BS.

When was this guy ever funny? Between his dismal humor and his shrill girlie voice, it is hard to sit and listen to him for more than a minute.

  12. 12

Russell Brand sure knows how to tell the TRUTH! If you don't like it, suck it!

  13. 13

Re: MichJB – I don't think he was trying to be funny here. He was offended by the remarks of GQ's Man of the Year, and responded by taking a big dump on one of GQ's biggest advertisers. GQ had no problem with Syria jokes, but when you offend an advertiser, a line has been crossed. It is very revealing.

Russell has stated that the thing that is most important to him about his latest comedic tour is in part 'the cultural narrative that we are told; the way that we are being presented with information, the way that meaning is designated, the significance that is given to certain issues and not to others, and the light in which stories are told…it could comprise more broadly the manufacture of consent…' Russell makes a point of how he tries to be mindful as he goes through this life. The GQ thing demonstrates that.
Alex Jones has two interesting searchable live interviews of Russell.

I absolutely love him. He can be annoying but he's incredibly smart and what he said was simply the truth. It was offensive only to the nazis and seriously? are we sure we need to worry about offending the fucking nazis?

  17. Nicole says – reply to this

    17

Oh, and by the way kudos on the incredibly misleading title. Ugh.

  18. 18

Re: Nicole – agree… wtf is up w the title??

Your article title is what Brand is referring to. 'Russell Brand's Offensive Nazi Remarks?'
Should be 'Russell Brand remarks about offensive Nazis.' How to twist it, page.

Re: wellwell – If you didn't has less brains than God gave a kumquat you'd be smart enough to know this isn't about Jews. By the way, Nazis went after imbeciles too, so you wouldn't have been safe either.

Keep the darn politics out of awards shows. If they are on TV and I am watching, I press the Off or Power button.

Oh and I just wrote my Congresswoman today that if she votes for war with Syria I am never again voting for her or working in her campaign like I did last time. I have no idea why Congress does not get the message that most folks want to bring the troops home. Let the darn Arabs kill themselves like they have been doing since shortly after Mohammed founded Muslim in about 700AD.

  24. 24

You should know your history before claiming to be offended, well, unless you're a German Nazi yourself. Hugo Boss did, in fact, provide uniforms to the Nazis. In fact, to meet demand in later years of the war, Boss used about 30 to 40 prisoners of war and about 150 forced (i.e. slave) labourers, from the Baltic States, Belgium, France, Italy, Austria, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and the Soviet Union. According to German historian Henning Kober, the company managers were "avowed Nazis", "the Boss were all great admirers of Adolf Hitler", and Hugo Boss himself had in 1945 in his apartment a photograph of himself with Hitler taken in the latter's Obersalzberg retreat.

Russell Brand was right on the mark with his comments! The fact that you aren't condeming what Boris said is offensive in and of itself.

  25. 25

Perez Hilton or whomever it is that actually writes this appallingly poor blog, HOW are these comments that Russell Brand said to be perceived as offensive? Who is it offending? They are truths. Every day I go on this blog due to some repulsive mental compulsion, every time I am disgusted by the lack of taste, intelligence and sense that greets me. Your vlogs are infuriatingly nonesensical and your obnoxious personality should be the repellent necessary to make me never visit this ugly site ever again, but it isn't. You are a disgrace.

Re: rosebud99 – lol yes they dont care about deaths but shit on a advertiser ur done …

  30. 30

Whoever wrote this is ignorant. Russell Brand spoke the truth, which he tends to do in his acts. HE is highly intelligent, aware, and unafraid to use that to his advantage. People only hate him because he is saying these things as a British man.

  31. whitsg says – reply to this

    31

Its not the truth thats offensive. That is an awful and ungrateful reward show speech. He came off as a cocky jerk.

  32. 32

Gotta admit, Russell does have a good point. Those fancy uniforms that the Nazis wore probably made an impact on people back in those days. Fancy uniforms make people act differently. It's like wearable propaganda … advertising the Nazis to make them look "cool" or whatever.

It made some super evil dudes like Hitler and his cronies look like respectable, fashionable people who should be respected. There were REAL wolves underneath their sheep's clothing.

Good that he was thrown out! He's an egotistical ass! We should pay him no attention! [vbg]

  34. 34

Good for you, Russell. The Syrian situation is tragic and sad. It should never be the source of a joke.
I'm not sure I support him bringing up Hugo Boss. While I agree that it shouldn't be swept under the carpet, I'm not sure why he mentioned this at the GQ awards. He just wanted to go on a tirade, I guess?

  35. 35

Nevermind my comment on why Hugo Boss was dragged into it. I found on another website that Hugo Boss sponsored this event, and Russell was standing in front of large BOSS labels. Ugh, Perez always leaves out important facts :(
