What an intriguing and inspiring story!!
Geena Rocero was born a male, but identified as a female from a young age. She grew up in the Philippines (where the concept of gender is far more fluid) and began participating in transgender beauty pageants at age 15.
When she moved to America almost a decade ago, Geena changed her name and gender marker — and has blossomed into a successful model since then! But until last year, Geena kept her transgender identity a secret from industry friends, colleagues, and agents out of fear that it would negatively impact her career.
Then in honor of the International Transgender Day of Visibility this past Monday, Geena gave a TED Talk in which she officially “came out” as transgender.
