And this year's title goes to…
This is shaping up to be a banner year for the actress, and we’re sure this is only the beginning!
Following her major Oscar win and her first beauty contract with cosmetics giant Lancome, Queen Lupita can now claim the title of People magazine’s most beautiful woman in an issue filled with fellow beauties like Jennifer Lawrence, Amber Heard, Mindy Kaling, and Kerry Washington.
And she 100% deserves it — not only is she flawless on the outside, she also has an inspiring story!
"It was exciting and just a major, major compliment. I was happy for all the girls who would see me on [it] and feel a little more seen."
However, Miz Nyong’o wasn’t always secure in her good looks.
Growing up, she perceived beauty as what she saw on TV, which consisted of:
"Light skin and long, flowing, straight hair. Subconsciously you start to appreciate those things more than what you possess."
It was only later in life that she began to accept that she was actually beautiful, thanks in part to her mother.
"…always said I was beautiful. And I finally believed her at some point."
Oh, mothers. What would we do without them, right??
Lupita also admitted to the mag that she appreciates compliments the most:
"…when I have been called beautiful with not one drop of makeup on. And also before I comb my hair or put on a pretty dress. Happiness is the most important thing."
We agree completely!
And we also agree with People’s excellent choice for this year’s honor!!
Get it, gurl!
