rose mcgowan cancels appearance amid rape claims

Rose McGowan will no longer be appearing at the Tallgrass Film Festival — and it has everything to do with Harvey Weinstein.

In case you were unaware, the Charmed alum was slated to be honored with an Ad Astra Award at the Kansas-based film festival. Sadly, 24 hours before her scheduled public appearance, organizers announced that Rose would no longer be coming.

Harvey Weinstein Could Still Face Prosecution For Rose McGowan Rape Thanks To Legal Loophole

We knew Harvey Weinstein could still be looking at charges in the U.K., where there is no statute of limitations on rape, but it turns out there is a legal loophole that could require him to face allegations stateside.

Specifically, accusations by Rose McGowan that the Miramax head raped her.

The assault was alleged to have occurred at the Sundance Film Festival in 1997. At the time in Utah, the statute of limitations on rape was only four years.

Even though that law was changed in 2008, the U.S. Supreme Court has upheld that dead cases must stay dead for logistical reasons, sort of a grandfather clause for monsters.

But here's where there is a possibility — Utah, like most states, has a policy of stopping the clock on the statute of limitations when the defendant is out of the state.

In other words, the four years had to have passed while Harvey was still in Utah. He wasn't there for four years between 1997 and 2008, as he doesn't live there, so there is legal precedent for the case moving forward.

Obviously, there are other considerations like legal challenges to whether this case fits the letter of the law, not to mention evidence in a case 20 years cold. But it could be possible.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, authorities in Park City have not received an official complaint from Rose. Yet.

Another woman has come forward to accuse Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment.

Former filmmaker Louisette Geiss (above, left) claims the disgraced producer used a meeting about one of her films at the Sundance Film Festival to proposition her into watching him jerk off.

Speaking from her attorney Gloria Allred's (above, right) offices on Tuesday, Geiss said in 2008, Weinstein invited her to the premiere of Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden.

After the screening, she agreed to meet him back at the restaurant hotel where they were both staying, but they were turned away because it was closing. Weinstein then innocently suggested they meet in his office attached to his hotel room.

Fully aware of the rumors about the movie mogul, Geiss was hesitant at first, but agreed to join only as long as Weinstein promised he would not touch her. They even shook on it.

At first, Geiss contends the meeting was great — the two ended up having a "great conversation" about her movie, for which Harvey "seemed genuinely interested." But before the deal was sealed, the producer excused himself to go to the bathroom and re-emerged wearing a bathrobe — under which, Geiss recalls he was "buck naked."

Things got pretty weird from there. Geiss said Weinstein asked her to

harvey weinstein sexual harassment statement

UPDATE 4:45 P.M. EST: Weinstein is now suing The New York Times, claiming many of the accusations reported to be false. The publication is standing firm, asserting their confidence in their reporting.

Harvey Weinstein is one of Hollywood's biggest producers — and, apparently, one of its biggest misogynists too!

As we previously reported, the indie movie mogul hired an army of attorneys and crisis managers in order to combat two scandalous pieces, by The New York Times and The New Yorker, which paint him as a culprit of sexual harassment.

On Thursday, the Times expose, by investigative reporters Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey, dropped and revealed that Weinstein has allegedly caused "decades of sexual harassment" and has "reached at least eight settlements with women." Ashley Judd even went on the record to accuse Harvey of sexual harassment.

Two decades ago, when Miz Judd was merely an ingenue, it's reported Weinstein invited her up to his hotel room at the Peninsula Beverly Hills. Ashley initially thought she was arriving for a breakfast meeting, however, upon her arrival she says she discovered Harvey in a bathrobe requesting a back massage. It's also said he asked if she'd watch him in the shower. Gross.

There's still a lot of controversy surrounding Casey Affleck.

Obviously, the man is talented as he just won the Best Actor award at the 2017 Oscars for his work in Manchester By The Sea. However, Ben Affleck's younger brother's sexual harassment scandal from 2010 resurfaced in late 2016 — which made many people angry that the 41-year-old is still booking jobs.
