Genetically Modified Crops Pose Health Risk

Geneticaly modified crops have been found growing in the wild. That may not seem like a problem until you realize that these crops are restistant to some major herbicides and, if they continue to spread in the wild, could combine with normal crops and create hazardous strains of vegetables and other foods.

According to a report:

“Plants could turn into interminable ‘pests’ that can’t be killed; new insects will likely begin to proliferate while others are kept at bay; and unforeseen health hazards may ensue if the plant in question is used in food production.”

Few people know this, but gentically modified crops have been linked to health problems, and no studies have concluded that they are safe for consumption. Here are some potential health risks:

1. Cancer
2. Food allergies
3. Damage to your immune system
4. Super-viruses

How can you avoid this problem? Be wary of buying the following food items if they’re not organic:

1. Soy
2. Corn
3. Cottonseed (used in vegetable cooking oils)
4. Canola (canola oil)
5. Sugar from sugar beets
6. Hawaiian papaya
7. Some varieties of zucchini
8. Crookneck squash

So buy organic — local farmers markets, Whole Foods, and Trader Joes are all great places to do it!
