According to reports, the French don't like to go to the gym. Apparently, going to a place to work out is considered a very "niche" activity for the cafe dwellers.
Researchers have learned that as of 2008, only 5.4% of the French population actually belongs to a gym. While football, tennis and cycling are very popular activities in the country, most Frenchies would rather sit in "cafes smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee than work out."
The reasoning for not adopting a more active lifestyle seems to stem from several factors. For one, the country has an excellent healthcare program and has more admiration for outdoors sports. But the bigger reasons for lack of interest in gyms seems to be the lack of good-quality clubs and the distaste for sweat.
Yes, apparently there are few people willing to endorse the "mucky business of sweating and straining on a cardio machine." It offends their delicate French nature!
Oh please! Get over yourselves! Everyone can't be flawless all the time! That's why we need gyms!
Let's just hope they're not scarfing down too many croissants! Then, they'll be begging for the gym!
