First Artificial Heart Transplant Successful!
Until now there have not been any permanent artificial hearts. For the first time a 15 year old boy in Italy has recieved a permanent artificial heart.
All of the artificial hearts before this were only temporary.
This boy suffered from Duchenne syndrome which was wasting his muscles away. Due to this illness, he could not receive a heart transplant.
A plug behind his left ear and a battery attached to his belt powers the heart, which should grant him another 20-25 years of life!
