Max Weinberg was Conan’s drummer for years, but he recently announced that he would not be moving to TBS with the show. What we didn’t know until now is that his decision was greatly influenced by the open-heart surgery he had two weeks after the Tonight Show fiasco happened.
Weinberg just revealed what he went through in an interview.
“Two years ago, it became life-threatening and I had to do something about it sooner or later. I did it two weeks after [Conan’s ‘Tonight Show’] went off the air.”
He added that the stress of the show ending did not help his health predicament at all.
It was very dramatic. At my age, just being in this business for as long as I’ve been, nothing really surprises me, particularly in the landscape of television. [But] any abrupt ending to anything is shocking.
While we loved Max on Conan, his health is more important than anything. Keep healthy, Max!
