How To Keep Your New Year's Fitness Resolution

Makes sense to us! Small goals can lead to bigger ones!

As the New Year approaches, many are already thinking about what kinds of resolutions they'll make to help improve upon themselves - but experts are suggesting that everyone not get too overzealous - because if the more drastic the resolution, the more likely it will fail by March!

Dr. Belisa Vranich explains:

"Resolutions fail because they are unrealistic. Resolvers haven't prepared for failure, are not wholehearted about change and lack a support system."

And that applies to fitness!

Yoga and pilates instructor Kristin McGee elaborates:

"Before starting a spin class at 5 a.m. ask yourself honestly if you like getting up that early, and if you like spin. If the answer is no, don't do it. Some people are home exercisers; others are great in gym environments. Some like group dynamics, some like one-on-one. Don't be discouraged if it takes you a while to find out what you like best."

Andrea Metcalf continues:

"Successful people have support. Statistics show that one in 10 people can lose weight on their own but group support increases success rates to seven in 10. Journal, email, tweet, or Facebook your progress. They don't believe in themselves. They need to look in the mirror and see the good stuff."

Nurtitionist Joy Bauer concludes:

"I highly recommend that people set short term goals to help them stay on track and build a sense of accomplishment, rather than set unrealistic goals, like losing 20 pounds in two weeks."

All such wonderful and true advice! People expect too much from themselves, and want a quick fix!

With things like fitness, one needs to take time to understand their limits, and then prepare emotionally for a complete lifestyle change!

It can be fun! And it's DEFINITELY worth the effort!
