Hooray for treadmills!

According to new research, doctors are able to measure how long elderly patients will live based on how fast they can walk.

Here's what researcher Stephanie Studenski had to say about it:

“Health in late life is imperfectly captured by the list of medical conditions you have. Walking speed is a simple way to summarize the capacity and function of many of your body’s systems.”

According to the research, survival predictions based on walking speed, age, and gender are just as accurate as research based on age, gender, chronic conditions, smoking history, blood pressure, body mass index, AND hospitalization.

To help our odds in the future, maybe we should start racewalking.
