We all have bad days. But scientists have found that bad feelings are exacerbated when you read cheery facebook status updates from your friends and assume their life is better than your own.
It turns out that happens a lot more than you might think.
The first set of experiments on this subject revealed that people consistently underestimate how often other people have negative emotions, while overestimating how often they have positive ones. In other words, everyone assumes that everyone else is happier than they actually are.
The next study found that people who always think other people are happier than they are were less satisfied with life and felt they had more problems than the normal person.
So what’s the solution to this problem? Well, for one, everyone needs to understand that just because your friends may seem happy on the outside, they’re likely to be just as lonley and insecure as you are.
The next step? If you’re feeling down about your life, DON’T READ FACEBOOK STATUSES! Go workout! It will make you feel better! We promise!!
