51-Year-Old Claims Medicine Made Him A ‘Gay Sex Addict’

Um… what?!

A 51-year-old married father of two is suing GlaxoSmithKline for the consequences he suffered allegedly from taking Requip, a drug meant to treat Parkinson’s disease.

Didier Jambart lives in France and claims that he became both a gambling and gay sex addict after he started taking the drug. According to Jambart’s attorney, he tried to commit suicide three times after losing the family’s money to online gambling.

Jambart says that he became a “compulsive gay sex addict and began exposing himself on the Internet and cross-dressing.” He is seeking $610,000 in damages.

While all of this sounds crazy, (according to Jambart’s attorney) GlaxoSmithKline added the following warning labels to the drug in 2006, one year after Jambart stopped taking it:

– Tell your doctor if you have ever had an urge to gamble that was difficult to control and if you have or have ever had unexpected daytime sleepiness or a sleep disorder other than restless legs syndrome; high or low blood pressure; a psychotic disorder (mental illness that causes abnormal thinking or perceptions); or heart, liver, or kidney disease

– You should know that some people who took medications such as ropinirole developed gambling problems or other intense urges or behaviors that were compulsive or unusual for them, such as increased sexual urges or behaviors. There is not enough information to tell whether the people developed these problems because they took the medication or for other reasons. Call your doctor if you have an urge to gamble that is difficult to control, you have intense urges, or you are unable to control your behavior.

Our problem with all of this is that he clearly waited WAY too long to seek out help. Why didn’t he try to figure out what was going on before he had gambled his family’s money away? Also, we’re going to take a shot in the dark here and guess that he had some gay urges BEFORE he started taking the drug.

No matter what the alleged side-effects of a drug are, we’re positive none of them are, “makes you gay!”
