To all of the men out there, in case you needed more motivation to lose weight, a new study found that simply being obese dramatically raises men’s risk of dying from a heart attack, regardless of whether or not they have other health problems.
It’s easy to think that heart attacks are a result from multiple factors, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol and arterial disease, but this study confirms that simply being obese can push you over the edge.
Said study author Jennifer Logue:
"Obese, middle-aged men have a 60% increased risk of dying from a heart attack than non-obese middle-aged men, even after we cancel out any of the effects of cholesterol, blood pressure and other cardiovascular risk factors."
