Heidi Montag's Mom has sleeping problems

Not smart, bb!

Darlene Egelhoff, the estranged mother of reality star Heidi Montag, shared on her blog recently her troubles with sleeping and subsequently, mixing sleeping medication and alcohol.

She details one night, which she feared was her last, when she felt the effects of mixing a generic Ambien-like sleeping medication with wine, saying:

“My heart started pounding and wouldn’t stop racing. At the same time, I felt an intense tightening and pain surrounding my heart, I thought I might be having a heart attack.”

Woah! Scary!

Darlene says she has always struggled with heart palpitations and insomnia. Since losing her Colorado restaurant and financial stability, she has also dipped into depression often soothed by alcohol.

This sounds like a DANGEROUS combination!

While talking about her prescription sleep aids, he said on her blog:

“I was loving them (the sleeping pills). I had been on them for a couple weeks when I had a bad reaction, likely because I was also drinking wine which it says not to do I discovered later. My brother Rip always joked that those labels were wrong, that all medications were way better with alcohol! He also enjoyed many drugs recreationally for the majority of his adulthood which likely contributed to his depression and ulitimaltey [sic] taking his own life.”

How traumatic!

Yes dear, they probably did contribute to his unfortunate death, but we truly hope you learned your lesson after this close call and do not follow down the path your brother took.

Despite her fincial difficulty, which includes $100,000 of unpaid debt and her strained relationship with Heidi, whom she reportedly hasn't talked to for months, Darlene is taking steps to improve her life.

She says:

“I decided to take as strong an approach as possible holistically and spiritually… Chronic Insomnia is typically rooted in anxiety and stress, clearly my problem as well…I have eliminated all caffeine, sugar and alcohol and am only eating whole foods, nothing processed in any way. Foods high in omega 3′s, chromium, 5 HTP, tryptophan, B vitamins, folate, amino acids to produce serotonin, which helps with positive moods and emotions, and eating regulary to keep my blood sugar levels on an even keel. Aerobic exercise and sunlight every day.”
