People Eating HEALTHIER At Restaurants

Yes! Such awesome news!

It looks like our nation's focus on educating people on the benefits of a healthier lifestyle is paying off!

America's favorite eateries, including Denny’s, IHOP, Friendly’s, Sizzler and Applebee’s, are reporting unusually high numbers of healthy meals purchased.

Applebee's has reported their top-selling entree in January and February of 2011 was a sirloin and shrimp meal from their diet menu.

Applebee's president, Mike Archer, says although consumers often demand healthier options, most continue to order the junk food, but there is change in the air, explaining:

“I’ve been in the restaurant business for 30 years, and I’ve never seen anything like this. We’re seeing a sea change in consumer behavior.”

The same goes for breakfast joints like IHOP. President Jean Birch says:

“I’ve been in the restaurant business for 25 years, and we couldn’t have given away healthier food in the early part of my career. Now, not only are people ordering them, but some are deciding not to go somewhere if they don’t have healthier items on the menu.”

IHOP is even setting a healthier example at an early age by switching the side dish for kids meals from french fries to a fruit cup.

"You don't even see fries pictured on the kids page," says the companies president.

Creating a healthier America will never happen over night, but it looks like it's been happening over the last couple years and will continue to happen with major restaurant chains leading the way.
