Peanuts Protected By Law

Peanuts

Peanuts have more rights than some living creatures.

Despite the Department of Public Transportations murmurings of a possible peanut ban on airplanes to avoid bothering those with severe allergic reactions, a 12-year-old law blocks the agency from tampering with peanut policy without more scientific study.

The Department of Public Transportation said in a statement:

"The Department is prohibited by law from restricting the serving of peanuts aboard aircraft unless a peer-reviewed study determines that serving of peanuts causes severe reactions among airline passengers. There has been no such peer-reviewed study, so we declined to take action at this time."

The government proposed the ban last June and asked the public to give their opinions on the possible ban on the Public Transportation's website.

Many peanut allergy sufferers supported the ban, but the government decided to honor the existing law and has put any peanut objections on the back burner for now.

Fortunately for those suffering from severe peanut allergies, some carriers have developed their own policies to protect allergic passengers.

Some flights no longer serve peanuts and even create peanut-free buffer zones, so if you're worried about an allergic reaction, make sure to do the proper research before hopping on your next flight!
