It’s getting tough to be a smoker in NY!
A new law went into effect yesterday that bans smoking in 43 square miles of parks, public plazas, beaches, and boardwalks.
The law is meant to protect people from second hand smoke, and a $50 fine will be imposed on anyone who is caught smoking in a prohibited area.
Many people are upset about the law, saying it infringes on civil liberties.
"If there's a law against smoking in Times Square, then there should be a law for no stinking cars in the city!" said 68-year-old Mickey Scott.
While it does seem to be a bit harsh of a law, nobody should have to inhale second-smoke if they don’t want to!
